Super weakened Thursday as it moved across the Philippine Sea and underwent an eyewall replacement cycle, state forecasters said.
The typhoon was located 865 kilometers east of Northern Luzon at 11 a.m., with maximum sustained winds of 165 kph and gusts up to 205 kph. It moved northwestward at 15 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2, indicating winds of 62 to 88 kph, was hoisted over Batanes. Signal No. 1, with winds of 39 to 61 kph, was raised over Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, the northeastern portion of Quirino, Apayao, northern Abra, Kalinga, eastern Mountain Province, eastern Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, northern Aurora, and northern and central Catanduanes.
Inday is expected to continue moving northwest while over the Philippine Sea and approach Extreme Northern Luzon by Friday evening through Saturday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. The typhoon is forecast to remain within the Philippine Area of Responsibility until Saturday, when it is expected to exit toward Taiwan and eastern mainland China.
The typhoon will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing strong gusts and widespread rain across much of the country through Saturday. PAGASA said forecast tracks may still change and urged the public to monitor official advisories.
