DBM Secretary Kim Robert C. De Leon Receives Two Honors From PPSC

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Kim Robert C. De Leon received two distinctions recognizing his contributions to public service, good governance, and the development of public safety leaders during the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) 33rd Anniversary Commemoration on October 1, 2026.

Secretary De Leon was conferred the titles of Eminent Fellow and Distinguished Alumnus of PPSC. An alumnus of the college’s Master in Public Safety Administration program, he brought together his experience in public financial management and public safety governance, which emphasized responsible leadership, strong institutions, and effective public service.

Senate Recognizes JICA Contributions to Philippine Development

B**g Go Commends DOLE’s Recent Wage Order

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) was commended by Sen. Christopher Lawrence “B**g” T. Go on September 30, 2026, for its recent wage order, which will result in a P60 daily wage increase for minimum wage earners in the National Capital Region.

DOLE Proposes P47.73-billion Budget for 2027, P14.08 Billion Lower than 2026

On September 30, 2026, the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) proposed budget of P47.73 billion for 2027, P14.08 billion lower, or 22.8 percent less than in 2026, was reviewed by senators during the budget hearing. The proposed budget was said to focus on job creation, labor inspections, and accountability among the department's attached agencies.

For DOLE’s 2027 overall budget, P21.197 billion is allocated for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), while P26.162 billion will fund DOLE and its attached agencies under the National Expenditure Program. DOLE has allotted P1.23 billion for its Employment Facilitation Program and plans to expand the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) through new components such as Skill Pass, Trabahong Dagat, and Sagip Trabaho. The department will focus on workforce development, worker protection, and reinforcing pathways to long-term jobs.

Villanueva Challenges DOLE’s Proposed 2027 Budget

Deputy Majority Leader Joel Villanueva challenged the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on September 30, 2026, during the DOLE Budget Hearing, to show how every peso will translate into actual results for better jobs, wages, and decent work for Filipinos.

CFO and Catholic Church Partner to Protect Filipino Migrants and Strengthen Diaspora Engagement

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines–Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People (CBCP-ECMI) have strengthened their partnership to promote the welfare and protection of Filipinos overseas and deepen their connection with the Philippines. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by CFO Chairperson Dante “Klink” Ang II and CBCP-ECMI Chairman Bishop Socrates C. Mesiona in connection with the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees and the 40th National Migrants’ Sunday Luzon celebration.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will work together to strengthen engagement with Non-Resident Filipinos (NRFs), migrant families, and younger generations of Filipinos overseas. The partnership will also expand awareness of CFO programs such as PESO Sense, which promotes financial literacy and responsible financial decisions; Virtual Sentro Rizal, which supports Philippine culture and identity among Filipinos abroad; LINKAPIL (Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino), which provides opportunities for overseas Filipinos to support communities and development projects in the Philippines; and the 1343 Actionline, which provides information and assistance on human trafficking and related concerns. Ang said the CFO works with permanent and long-term migrants, expatriates, dual citizens, marriage migrants, their descendants, and people of Filipino descent.

Ang emphasized that stronger partnerships with institutions that have established community networks can help bring government programs, information, and assistance closer to Filipinos overseas and their families. He said the collaboration supports the CFO’s mandate to keep Filipino communities abroad informed and connected while creating opportunities for their knowledge, experience, networks, and resources to contribute to national development. | via Maren Patriarca
