Datu Grande Kibad of Macadar
Lumbatan, Lanao, Mindanao (c. early 1900s)
Datu Grande Kibad of Macadar was one of the most influential Maranao leaders during the early American colonial period. Known for his diplomacy and leadership, he attempted to mediate tensions between American authorities and the datus of Bayang prior to the Battle of Bayang (1902)—one of the defining events in Maranao resistance against American expansion in Mindanao.
Although his efforts for a peaceful resolution ultimately failed, his legacy endures as a symbol of leadership, statesmanship, and the resilience of the Maranao people.
📚 Historical Note: Macadar, now part of Lumbatan, Lanao del Sur, derives its name from the Maranao phrase "mala a kadr" meaning "Place of Great Destiny."
