Roque in Canada for climate program 🍃 Bukidnon Governor Oneil Roque is in Victoria City, Vancouver, Canada for a technical learning exchange aimed at strengthening the capacity of LGUs and communities to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and the adverse impacts of climate change.

Roque said he wants to learn how to take advantage of the Bukidnon coffee program in order to address climate and resiliency-related concerns.

Roque joins 5 other governors namely Bohol Governor Erico Aris Aumentado, Kalinga Governor James Edduba, Davao de Oro Governor Raul Mabanglo, Northern Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan and Aklan Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores.

The trip, sponsored by Alinea International Ltd. and supported by the Global Affairs Canada, is under the Governance for Climate and Disaster Resilience (Gov-CDR) Program in Victoria City.

"THIS IS ABOUT DUTY." Former Senate President Chiz Escudero issued a statement after he showed up during the June 3, 2026 Senate session, completing a quorum.

Escudero emphasized the need for senators to set aside political divisions and prioritize the institution’s mandate.

"I am not taking sides. I am taking a stand for the Senate. My allegiance is not to any faction, personality, group or alliance. This is not about loyalty, betrayal, or choosing one group over the other—this is about duty," Escudero said.

"Hindi ito usaping pampulitika. Wala akong sinasamahan o iniiwanang grupo, pangkat o paksyon. Hindi ko sinasabi na may mali o tama o may nagkulang o nagmalabis kaninuman. Vice President Inday Sara Duterte writes an open letter to expelled Congressman Kiko Barzaga. "Being different is okay," she said.

In a post written June 3, 2026, Duterte wrote: "It takes grit to be yourself in a world that rewards conformity. Not everyone will understand your choices or the path you take, and that's okay. What matters is staying true to who you are and what you believe in."

The House of Representatives expelled Partido ng Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) member and Cavite 4th District Rep. Kiko Barzaga on June 2, 2026, becoming only the second lawmaker in Philippine history to receive such a penalty. PDP is the political party of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

The Lower Congress said Barzaga engaged in a pattern of "highly disruptive, discourteous, and disorderly behavior that directly obstructed plenary sessions and desecrated parliamentary solemnity."

The offenses include:

- Repeated interruption of plenary sessions
- Mockery of leadership, including former House speaker Martin Romualdez
- Unauthorized and slanderous live broadcasts during budget plenary sessions

Before his expulsion, Barzaga faced two 60-day suspension orders.

"What happened today was a clear abandonment of responsibility, a dereliction of duty, and a blatant disregard of the rules that govern this institution, because the Senate cannot be made to stop working simply because its presiding officer refuses to lead.

Under Rule XIV, Sec. 41 of the Rules of the Senate, the Senate President may postpone the holding of the session AFTER consultation with the Majority Leader AND the Minority Leader.
