What are you going to do?

You have options, that's for sure.

But the way I see it, those options are all expensive.

But one way or another, the trap we all fall into is the notion that a certain way of designing a logo is better than the other.

And please don't feed yourself crap by saying you weren't trapped.

The acknowledgement of this danger is your first step of escape.

I understand the argument about "us" being the ones to educate them about it.

That simple does not equate to easy.
That doing away with illustrative details is not laziness.
Blah blah, etcetera.

However...

If they don't see it as something of value in the first place, perhaps that argument wouldn't even exist at all.

I say it's best we "make them" educate us at the outset.

"Do they want a logo just to get by, or are they in need of something they can commit to for a long time?"
