8+ years in freelancing. And honestly, finding work now feels harder than when I started.
Back then, the challenge was proving you could work remotely.
Now, the challenge is proving you’re not just another person using AI.
1. The market is louder now. Everyone has a portfolio, a personal brand, a funnel, and an “AI-powered” service.
2. Skills are easier to learn, but harder to stand out with. AI made ex*****on faster, but it also raised the baseline.
3. Clients are more cautious. They’ve seen too many people overpromise with AI and underdeliver in real work.
4. Applications feel crowded. One job post can attract hundreds of people within hours.
5. Experience still matters, but it’s not enough by itself. You need proof, positioning, and clear results.
6. The AI bubble created opportunity, but also noise. Everyone is selling automation, prompts, agents, and workflows now.
7. What worked 8 years ago may not work today. Being “available” is not a value proposition anymore.
8. The real edge now is judgment. Knowing what to automate, what to simplify, and what still needs a human touch.
9. Finding a job is hard right now, but not impossible. The people who win are the ones who adapt without pretending AI solves everything.
Freelancing has changed a lot.
8 years ago, we were convincing people remote work was real.
Now, we’re convincing them real skill still matters in an AI-heavy world.
Which part of freelancing feels harder for you now?
