Faith & Fig Tree

Faith & Fig Tree A Christ-centered community. A sacred pause in the middle of everyday life. Be still. Be rooted. Be renewed.

07/04/2026

Last Sunday, we reflected on 1 Corinthians 15:17โ€“22 and were reminded that everything in our faith stands on the resurrection. If Christ has not been raised, our faith is empty and we are still separated from God. But Christ is risen, and that changes everything. He was raised for our justification, assuring us that our sins are truly forgiven and that our hope is not in vain. In Adam, there is death, but in Christ, there is life. And because He lives, our hope is secure and our future is sure, not based on what we can do, but on Him.

This invitation sounds simpleโ€”but it carries so much depth.

I was reminded that the Gospel often moves through ordinary moments: a conversation, a meal, a friendship. It's not always loud or dramatic. Sometimes, it's just quietly saying, "Come and see," and trusting God to do the work in someone's heart.

They prepare, they invite, they stay. It's a long game of love, patience, and faith. And along the way, we realize we're not just inviting people to know Christ, but to belongโ€”to His community, His people, His church.

It also challenged me: following Jesus isn't just "come and see," it's also "come and die"โ€”laying down pride, comfort, and control. But in that surrender, we find real life.

And I love this truth: we don't do this alone.

Last Sunday's Lord's Day was a reminder that the gospel is not just something we believe, but something that shapes how we live, speak, and relate to others.

It paints a picture of a life that reflects Christโ€”not just in big moments, but in everyday conversations and interactions.

One thing that stood out deeply is the balance of grace and truth. But in Christ, we see both perfectly. Thatโ€™s the kind of life we are called to reflect.

The baptism was also such a powerful moment. Witnessing lives publicly declare their faith is a beautiful reminder that God is still at workโ€”still saving, still transforming hearts.

There was a time when we were farโ€”outsiders, strangers, without hope. That's how Scripture describes us. Not dramatic. Just honest. We weren't naturally "near" to God.

But now, in Christ Jesus, those who were once far have been brought near by His blood (Eph. 2:13).

That changes everything.

Filipino hospitality is cultural. We're warm, generous, welcoming. But Christian hospitality is theological. It's rooted in the truth that we were first welcomed by God. Not because we earned a seat at the tableโ€”but because Christ Himself became our peace. He broke down the walls that divided us (Eph. 2:14).

We're no longer strangers and foreigners. We are fellow citizens with God's people, members of His household (Eph. 2:19). A family being built together, brick by brick, into a dwelling place for God (Eph. 2:21โ€“22).

And here's the beautiful part:

Christian hospitality isn't just one person being nice. It's a whole community living like reconciliation is real. It's sharing good news not as a script, but as people who have tasted grace.

Evangelism in Scripture is rarely portrayed as a formula or a forced encounter. It is the natural overflow of a life shaped by the Gospel.

As God welcomes sinners into His household through Christ, He forms a people who open their lives, tables, and relationships to others.

In a culture like ours โ€” where hospitality, shared meals, and long conversations over coffee are already woven into daily life โ€” God has given us a unique opportunity to embody the Gospel naturally and faithfully.

What if evangelism isnโ€™t about mastering a technique?
What if itโ€™s about remembering who we are?

Join us every Sunday in March as we rediscover what it means to live as a welcoming people.
