I honestly didn't think I'd still see VA jobs paying $1–$2/hour in 2026.

Reported it, and the platform's response was basically: "We don't enforce minimum pay. Just don't apply."

This is exactly why VAs need to know their worth. Experience, skills, and professionalism deserve fair compensation.

If I had to start my VA journey all over again, I would NOT spend months trying to learn every single tool known to mankind. 😭😂

Because tell me why we think we need to know Canva, CapCut, Notion, ClickUp, HubSpot, GoHighLevel, Zapier, and 47 other tools before sending ONE application. 😭

Start with what you already know.

Pick 1–2 skills you can actually offer. Make sample works if you don’t have experience yet. Fix your profile and portfolio. Then APPLY.

And pleaseeee personalize your applications. 😭

Clients can tell when you copy-pasted the same “Dear Hiring Manager, I am writing to express my interest…” to 30 job posts. 😂

Also: FOLLOW UP.

Some of the opportunities I’ve gotten didn’t happen because I had the perfect resume or knew every tool.

Sometimes it’s really just showing up, being willing to learn, and actually putting yourself out there.

You’ll learn A LOT while doing the actual work anyway.

For years, I worked as a freelancer—finding clients, managing projects, and building my experience one opportunity at a time.
