Five300 Design Studio

Five300 Design Studio Every place is starting to look the same. Most are told they need to "modernize" or "follow trends" to succeed. What emerges isn't temporary inspiration.

We help communities, brands, and institutions remember what makes them irreplaceable and build economies that honor it.

📩 DM "Ready" to start the conversation Five300 works with communities, place-based brands, and local governments who refuse to choose between thriving economically and staying rooted culturally. But we've learned something different: the places that become irreplaceable aren't

the ones who copy. They're the ones who remember what only they can offer. Our approach is Design Kwentuhan - a methodology rooted in Filipino ways of relating (kwentuhan as deep conversation, pakikiramdam as shared understanding). We gather people in circles to surface the cultural knowledge already present, shift how they see themselves, and co-create what comes next. It's tangible transformation:

• Artisans who innovate from cultural roots, not market trends
• Brands rooted in place, not imported aesthetics
• Collectives with unified pricing and market power
• Tourism based on cultural exchange, not extraction
• LGU policies that support creative economies for generations

This methodology is part of Creative Isla Movement - a cultural movement we founded to help communities remember they are creatives and innovators in their own context. Not because they follow global formulas, but because they hold living cultural knowledge. Design Kwentuhan has been recognized by DTI Design Center of the Philippines and is now being implemented across MIMAROPA municipalities - proving that culture-led development works when communities are positioned as knowledge holders, not program recipients. We believe culture is not something you decorate. It's something you practice, together. Based in Palawan, Philippines. Working with communities, brands, and governments locally and regionally. LET'S START A CONVERSATION
If your community, organization, or brand wants to:

→ Build identity-led strategy (not copy trends)
→ Create culture-based economies (not just preservation programs)
→ Activate collective power (not individual competition)
→ Design for long-term sustainability (not temporary projects)

When I lost ₱6,000 to a fake airline, I was embarrassed.

Then I started researching and realized: this isn't just about me.

Every tourism scam in Palawan creates a ripple effect:

• Travelers lose trust in booking ANY local business online
• Real tour operators get lumped in with scammers
• Families running legitimate resorts watch bookings go to fake websites with stolen photos
• Our province's reputation takes the hit

And the cruelest part? Scammers are better at design than most honest businesses—not because they're more skilled, but because they invest in deception first.

I'm a designer. I should've known better.

But that's exactly why I'm breaking this down over 10 episodes.

If scammers can invest in lies, real businesses deserve to invest in truth.

Let's protect Palawan tourism. Starting now. 👇

At Five300, we're passionate about helping Palawan's creative community explore and celebrate Filipino design traditions. 🌿

That's the heart behind Design Kwentuhan: a space where we can learn together, share stories, and rediscover the beautiful design heritage that's always been ours.

Yesterday, Design Kwentuhan Vol. 2 brought together 30 creatives for a wonderful afternoon exploring different perspectives on design.

We had the privilege of learning from Prof. Jerone Avel Cansino about Palaw'an cosmology. It was fascinating to discover how rich and interconnected our indigenous design systems are!

We also explored our creative journeys together and had a fun, hands-on activity designing tote bags using natural materials like leaves, shells, and vegetables.

Participants shared such thoughtful reflections:
"I learned that design can reflect and benefit the community."
"This inspired me to explore more Filipino elements in my work."

This is why we love what we do. Through Five300 and Creative Isla Movement, we're committed to supporting Palawan's creative community and honoring our cultural design heritage.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our wonderful partners! Looking forward to Session 3 in April. 💚

The kwentuhan continues.

DESIGN KWENTUHAN SESSION 2: Unlearning Design

A session about unlearning the rules we inherited, so we can rediscover the knowledge we already had.

📅 January 24, 2026 • 1PM
📍 Rurungan Compound, Abanico Rd., San Pedro, Puerto Princesa City

✨ FREE Admission • Limited to 30 slots

This isn't just another design workshop. This is kwentuhan—a space to surface what colonial design education taught us to value and what it erased, to name where we are in our creative journey, and to physically embody unlearning through hands-on creation.

We'll explore:
- Challenging colonial design conditioning
- Reclaiming indigenous design knowledge as sophisticated methodology
- Understanding your stage in creative evolution
- Designing with ginhawa (wellbeing, ease, dignity) at the center

You'll leave with a tote bag you designed using natural materials—and a shifted perspective on what design can be when we center our own knowledge systems.

No design background required. Open for all.

⚠️ Important: Register only if you're 100% committed to attending. Every seat matters. Every empty chair means someone on the waitlist missed this opportunity.

Behind the Scenes at Pamati 🌴

Honored to participate in an event that celebrates stories, community, and creativity.

Five300 shows up not just as a designer, but as part of this community. Listening, creating, and contributing with purpose.

Thank you, Direk Dante, for inviting us into this meaningful space.

This is why we do what we do. Design that starts with people.

✨ New Project Design Drop✨

We wanted this one to feel bright, easy, and scroll-worthy, like a quick trip through your favorite lifestyle store.

From product curation to color flow, every part of the layout was made to guide the eyes without feeling salesy.

Because even a simple email can build trust when it feels well-designed.

Every brand email can tell a story when it’s designed with purpose.

If yours isn’t there yet, let’s change that together.

Stay alert, Palawan. 💚

As Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) moves westward, different parts of Palawan are now under varying signal levels.

Let’s keep calm, stay informed, and prioritize safety.

Check the updated wind signals in your area and follow official advisories.

📍 Signal No. 4: El Nido, Taytay, Araceli, Calamian & Cuyo Islands
📍 Signal No. 3: Dumaran, San Vicente, Roxas
📍 Signal No. 2: Puerto Princesa, Cagayancillo
📍 Signal No. 1: Aborlan, Quezon, Narra, Sofronio Española

⚡ Stay indoors
📞 Keep emergency hotlines handy
🏠 Know your nearest evacuation center
🌧 Avoid coastal areas — storm surges expected up to 3m

Together, let’s keep our community safe and informed.

Posted to help inform our community during Typhoon Tino. Design, at its core, is about care.

Overwhelmed. Grateful. Hopeful.

That's what I'm feeling after today's first Design Kwentuhan.

Thank you to DTI - Design Center of the Philippines for bringing this conversation to Palawan. For trusting us to start this movement on our island.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend. To those who shared their thoughts. To those who asked questions. To those who committed to participate in Creative Isla.

We didn't just talk about design history. We created design history.

And I know there's still so much work to do. So many questions without answers. But what matters is — we've started. Together.

Because design is not individual work. Design is collective culture.

And this culture? We're the ones building it.

See you at the next Kwentuhan. 🌊
