Mega Media News - VP candidate Bongbong Marcos prepares complaint on Vote Receipt Discrepancies

MANILA, Philippines - Vice Presidential aspirant Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos, Jr. exposed that his legal team is now preparing and collating evidence on vote receipt discrepancies in the Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) in a set to file a complaint before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

"We are in the process of collating all complaints, all data in preparation for the filing of a complaint before the Comelec regarding the controversy. We will exert all efforts to get to the bottom of this," Marcos said.

The Senator said that more vote receipt discrepancies have been reported lately in California, USA.

"When the voter in California complained to the election officers, he was scolded by the Board of Elections Inspectors (BEIs) who ordered him to just go home. The BEI even allegedly tore his vote."

He stressed, "What is disturbing is that I am the only one losing votes!"

More vote receipt discrepancies have been reported in Hong Kong, Dubai, Kuwait and Japan.

Marcos added that the Comelec should assure the conduct of clean, honest and credible elections on May 9 rather than wasting time to such matters like warning voters taking selfies with their receipts.

"Instead of going after voters taking selfies, the Comelec should focus all its efforts in addressing various issues that threaten the credibility of the elections, such as the reported discrepancies in the ballot, the printed receipts and the hacking of their website that compromised voters' data," he suggested.

The Senator said that the reports on alleged discrepancies in the votes in the ballot and the printed receipts could have triggered voters in the OAV to capture selfies with their ballots.

He concluded, "You cannot fault the voters to take actions in a bid to protect their vote if they continue to hear reports of alleged flaws in the voting process. So, instead of going after those taking selfies, the Comelec should get its act together to allay any suspicions of cheating or voting irregularities"

Mega Media News - Marcos pushes call for higher wages again

Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on April 14 even as the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) seeks to increase the minimum wage in Metro Manila by P154, he is pushing the call for higher wages.

“Having decent work to support one’s family is a basic human right and workers have long been suffering for sky-high taxes and very low income to begin with that does not support their needs,” the senator said.

According to the senator, he is also backing for the creation of the Jobs Creation Council, an inter-agency body that would focus on employment generation through partnerships of the government with business leaders and local government units (LGUs). He said that a review of whether the wages truly are commensurate with the inflation rate and basic expenses should be done not only in Metro Manila but nationwide.

The vice presidential aspirant said: “During my campaign sorties, I have talked to a lot of groups and they kept complaining about the same thing. No matter which province, no matter who I talk to, it always boils down to insufficient income for the amount of work they do and even before their salaries get to them, over 30 percent of it has already been deducted in taxes. So a wage increase should be given now.”

Sen. Bongbong Marcos said at the last vice presidential debate that if he will be given a Cabinet position he would want to be secretary of labor because he believes that this is one of the keys to solving the poverty problem throughout the country.

Marcos said that there is a need to establish Jobs Creation Council that will prioritize an employment projection plan where high employment growth rates are met and negative employment outcomes are projected aside from the evaluation of wages.

Mega Media News - 5 Bank Accounts Every Filipino Family Should Have

The adage “Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket,” has never been truer when it comes to managing your finances. Putting all of your money in just one bank account may seem easier to manage, but it can also be overwhelming once the expenses pile up.

“If you don’t divide your savings into separate specific accounts, there is a bigger chance that you will spend funds that are allocated for another purpose,” says bank manager Eleanor So. “Having separate accounts will give you a clearer picture of how much you really have, how far along you are from your financial goal for a [particular] account, and if you are able to stay within budget.”

There is also the security risk that comes with keeping all of your money in only one place. “Most people’s savings accounts are also their ATM accounts,” adds So. “If their ATM card gets stolen or skimmed (i.e., the card’s data is copied, allowing someone else to access it even without having the actual card with him), they may lose the bulk of the money in that account.”

Here are five accounts your family should have:

1 Family checking account

What it's for: Monthly bills (e.g., utilities) and other major expenses, such as tuition fees
How much to put in: This is where your entire month’s paycheck goes. The money that is left at the end of the month [after paying all of your bills] is the one that you use to open all of your other accounts.
Take note: Exercise caution when handling this account. “Always make sure you have enough funds in this account to cover your checks. Otherwise, you will incur overdrafts, which will result in penalties from your bank,” advises So. Registered financial planner Joseph Anthony Peralta adds, “A good idea is to link your bills to this account and subscribe to the bank’s auto-debit or auto-pay function. This way, you can always pay your bills on time.”

2 Family Savings Account
What it's for: For everyday expenses such as groceries, entertainment, and dining out
How much to put in: Whatever the amount, remember that your expenses should not exceed 20 percent of your take-home pay.
Take note: Make this your ATM account so you have easy access to cash. “Sit down with your spouse and agree on what falls under minor expenses (e.g., monthly mobile phone bills) and what makes up major expenses (e.g., a new mobile phone). Major expenses must be subject to discussion before purchase,” says Peralta.

The first two accounts mentioned above will require you to do bank transactions often, while the next three should be accessed as sparingly as possible.

3 Emergency account
What it's for: For large, unexpected expenses, such as hospitalization and major car or home repairs. “These are the savings you hope you’d never have to use,” says Peralta.
How much to put in this account: Your monthly expenses multiplied by six.
Take note: Of the three “untouchable” accounts, this is the first one that you need to fill up before you open the next two accounts. It should be put in a regular savings account so you could easily withdraw funds when the need arises. If you withdraw from this account, make sure to replenish it right away. “Open with a bank that’s different from where you have your day-to-day savings account so you're not tempted to use it for non-emergency purposes,” says So.

An emergency account should also be separate from your retirement fund. “If you’re suddenly unemployed before your retirement age (e.g., you are laid off), you should dip into this emergency fund (and not your retirement fund) to tide you over until you find a new job,” says Peralta.

4 A retirement account
What it's for: This is your nest egg when you retire.
How much to put in: “By the time you reach retirement age, you must have already saved eight times the amount of your current yearly income,” says Peralta.
Take note: To grow your money in this account, consider making sound investments. There are many options available, from short- to long-term, from low- to high-risk. Ideally, once you retire, you should be living off the dividends of your investments with the principal amount barely touched. To fill up this account, start with small amounts—whatever you can spare. When you have a better hold on your finances and, hopefully, start earning more, then you can put in bigger amounts.

5 A vacation or "fun" account
What it's for: This is where all your extra savings goes to be used for little luxuries or rewards such as a family vacation or a new car.
How much to put in: “To compute how much you need to save every week or month, take the total cost of the vacation, and then divide it by the number of weeks or months until your planned vacation date,” says So.
Take note: This account requires early planning and some research to know how much you need to save. “You can invest the money in a short-term time deposit, where you can gradually make additional placements. This allows you to earn extra savings and also discourages you from withdrawing money from said account,” says So.

Mega Media News - DOE assures stable power on 2016 Elections

CEBU, Philippines-- Sufficient power during the May 9 automated elections was assured by Department of Energy Secretary Zenaida Monsada.

A wide preventive maintenance has undertaken on some energy plants in the country to make sure they will be running even two weeks before the elections, DOE Secretary Zenaida Monsada said.

On the other hand, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has declared a “yellow alert” in both the Luzon and Visayas for lack of energy reserve. Monsada explained that however, it does not mean that there is lack of power supply. Only that the energy reserve does not meet the standards.

The DOE Secretary said extreme heat because of summer and El Niño are one of the main reasons to highly to the high demand of power these days.

She also appealed to the public to limit power use between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., when power demand in the Visayas grid reaches its peak.

Monsada said private firms with their own power generators will follow the Interruptable Load Program (ILP) in case NGCP raises a red alert

Monsada had a meeting with different electric companies in the country and the NGCP in Cebu on Friday to discuss the current power supply situation as part of the preparations for the coming elections.

The Department of Energy (DOE) released a circular DC2016-01-0001, creating a Power Task Force Election (PTFE) 2016 which aims to ensure adequate and reliable power supply before, during, and after the elections.

Mega Media News - Inflammation and Belly Fat, and foods to fight them

I have seen an article which can help you on how to prevent or fight inflammation and belly fat, two health conditions that may lead to other complications.

Inflammation is part of the body's immune response. Initially, it is beneficial when, for example, your knee sustains a blow and tissues need care and protection. However, sometimes inflammation can cause further inflammation; it can become self-perpetuating. More inflammation is created in response to the existing inflammation.

On the other hand, stomach fat (belly fat, abdominal fat) is fat tissue deposited in the midsection of the body around the abdominal organs. Studies have shown that an increased amount of belly fat is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, and early death. Two measurements, waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio, have been used by researchers to identify those with increased belly fat.

Fruits and vegetables

All fruits and vegetables, due to their rich nutrient and fiber content, help to combat chronic inflammation, so make sure to include adequate amounts of these foods daily. Some types of fresh produce, however, are even more potent than others.

Some terrific anti-inflammatory fruits and vegetables to include in your meal plan include apples, berries, broccoli, mushrooms, papaya, pineapple, and spinach.

Green tea

This mild beverage is great for helping shrink your waistline as well as for decreasing inflammation. The flavonoids in this tea have natural anti-inflammatory properties. And the compound EGCG in green tea has been shown to help reduce body fat.
Monounsaturated fats
These heart-healthy fats help raise your healthy HDL cholesterol levels and reduce overall inflammation. Great sources include olive oil, almonds, and avocado.
Omega-3 fatty acids
Research has shown that a diet with a high percentage of omega-3 fatty acids and a low percentage of omega-6 fatty acids has been linked with decreased inflammation. Food sources of omega-3s include walnuts, flaxseed, and fish, such as wild Alaskan salmon.
Spices
Certain spices, including garlic, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and chili peppers, have potent inflammation-reducing capabilities, so try adding them to meals as often as possible.
Water
Staying hydrated is essential to flushing inflammation-causing toxins out of your body. Aim for 64 ounces of water per day. Remember: Add an additional 8 ounces of water for every 30 minutes of exercise as well.
Whole grains
Rich in fiber, whole grains help control the insulin response in your body. The high B vitamin content of whole grains also helps reduce the inflammatory hormone homocystine in the body.

Most of the recommended foods are affordable. Also, it can be easily found even in public markets so why not try it? Happy living!
