Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, Management (ABM) learners of Melchora Aquino High School (MAHS) successfully opened a business fair at the MAHS Multi-Purpose Court, running from February 23 to 27.

This activity served as final requirements for their Business Simulation subject, under the guidance of their subject teacher, Dr. Eleanor C. Mabassa, Teacher II, where each group must successfully run their own small businesses to qualify for graduation.

The fair consisted of four different booths, namely: Panaderya Delicioso, Bagong Anyo, Calamochi, and Banana Blossom, each managed by a different student group, and were operational from 8:00 AM until their products are sold out.

The students spent over a month preparing business plans and products to gain hands-on experience in managing capital and expenses.

All profits earned were divided among the group members.

The Luminary, together with Ang Kamalayan, marked the 214th Birth Anniversary of Melchora Aquino by hosting the first “Retratotohanan: Photography and Photojournalism Contest” last January, with the theme “Melchora Aquino @ 214: Pusong Naglilingkod, Pusong MelQuinian”, inviting teachers and non-journalism students to join the Photography category and journalism students to join the Photojournalism category—and today, we celebrate by announcing the winners of this meaningful event.

MAHS held its first-ever digital voting for the SSLG elections on February 5 and 5, following the 3-day election campaign of two political party lists.

This was implemented upon the suggestion of School Principal II Dr. Herminia J. Flores to help make the process faster and more organized.

Dr. Flores emphasized that it was time for MelQuinians to start voting digitally.

The ICT Laboratory, 12-HUMSS C classroom, and the Administration Office served as the polling venues.
With the supervision of Mr. Art Gil R. Saniano (ICT Coordinator), a total of 80 laptops were used, and each grade level voted according to a schedule to keep everything in order and avoid crowding.

Meanwhile, Grade 12 students from the ICT, STEM, and ABM strands helped as poll clerks, members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI), and poll watchers while the activity was supervised by the LG COMEA and Araling Panlipunan teachers assigned in each polling venue.

Melchora Aquino High School (MAHS) conducted a deworming activity for students through the Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis Control Program last February 19.

District VI Health Care Professionals, together with Clinic Teachers Mrs. Princess Bravo, Ms. Grecilmie Gonzales, Mr. Jodel Gasatan, the Wash in Schools (WinS) Coordinator, and Junior Medic Society volunteers, led the program and ensured the safe distribution of deworming tablets to Grades 7–12 students.

The program aimed to fight infections caused by parasitic worms, which can lead to anemia, malnutrition, and weaker physical and mental abilities among MelQuinians.

According to Mr. Gasatan, regular deworming in public schools is important because it is a simple but effective way to reduce student absences and help learners stay focused, especially in communities with sanitation problems.

Based on data from the School Clinic, 287 students received deworming medicine—136 boys and 151 girls—equal to 17.77% of the total population of MAHS.

Meanwhile, the highest number of dewormed students came from Grade 11 with 92, followed by Grade 12 with 65, and Grade 7 with 62.

The school clinic, in collaboration with the MAPEH Department, conducted a Teenage Pregnancy Awareness Seminar for Grade 9, 10, and 11 students of Melchora Aquino High School (MAHS) on February 13, at the MAHS Multi-Purpose Court, as part of the school’s MAPEH Month activities.

The activity aimed to promote understanding, respect, and guidance among adolescents regarding teenage pregnancy, responsible decision-making, and reproductive health.

Additionally, the school welcomed Karen Y. Belagan, Nurse II and ARH Focal Person, who thanked the organizers for supporting the initiative. Resource speakers Ma. Lyn Joy L. Toraja and Michael B. Himor, representatives of the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP), also provided detailed discussions on teenage pregnancy, responsibility, and contraceptives to guide students in making decisions.

“Dapat kapag nagmamahal tayo, nagtitira pa rin tayo para sa ating mga sarili,” Mr. Himor emphasized.
