Safe Vegetable Production with Marketing Technology Improvement Project

Safe Vegetable Production with Marketing Technology Improvement Project It is three(3) years duration project program being implemented jointly by Japan Agricultural Exchange Council and Department of Agriculture funded by JICA

The Safe Plant and Livestock Production Technology Dissemination Project in the Philippines is a joint project of the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines and Japan Agricultural Exchange Council funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency by introducing japanese organic technology using " MOKUSAKU " a japanese term for Wood Vinegar. A liquid obtained from oil, juices, sap and other

liquid contents of organic material such as wood, coconut shell, bamboo, grass and other plants after being heated in a chamber. The chamber is heated by burning firewood placed at the base of the chamber. When these organic materials are heated, their liquid content evaporate as steam or gas smoke. The steam or gas smoke passes through tube pipe going to stainless cooling chamber where it will be allowed to cool. When the steam or gas smoke is cooled, the vapor will turn into liquid ( condensation process) . The liquid is what is known as Mokusaku. From the the tube this liquid is collected in container and stock it for about 3 to 6 months under sedimentation process to obtained good quality. The process is needed since there are some toxic substances such as tar mixed with Mokusaku. These substances can be separated by sedimentation. after 3 to 6 months , Mokusaku will separate in 3 layers. The upper portion mostly contain the water, the middle portion will contain the good Mokusaku and the bottom contains a higher percentage of tar that can toxic to plants and animals if directly contact. The water and tar portion could be used for composting and as soil supplement. The middle portion containing good Mokusaku can now used for spraying as foliar. Also under SPLPTDPP,aside from the introduction of Mokusaku Technology. The project includes the 3 years internship training program for the Young Filipino Farmers. In these program, the young farmers are given a chance to learned Japanese Farming Technology while working in the farm. They will lived in the farm of different Japanese Host Farmers in Minami-Maki in Nagano Prefecture.
