Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice, zero pretentiousness, all flavor
Originally from Singapore and being awarded a "Bib Gourmand" by the Michellin Guide really sets the standard of food we expected. And without a doubt, we couldn't wait for our next visit.
We tried their best-selling Hainanese Chicken and Roasted Chicken. For the sides, we got their Fried Tofu and Century Egg salad. For the drinks, we ordered the ripe mango shake.
The servings were simple. No over-the-top plating, no gimmicks, it was just served as we ordered (like literally lightning quick serving)
The Hainanese Chicken and Roasted Chicken were both juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. Every flavor was just right and the umami left us wanting for more. If we were to match them one-on-one, it's the Hainanese Chicken all day.
The sides were not forgotten as well. The rich umami-filled Century Egg salad with fried spicy garlic and ginger coats your mouth with so much flavor that you're just hungry for more. The Fried Tofu was just as amazing with a crispy crust as a soft tofu interior coated with a sweet and spicy sauce that just blends everything so well.
The drinks we had, the cold ripe mango shake did not miss as well. Real ripe mangoes— all sweet, no sourness (but I guess it's also because of the season). It's the perfect sweet and refreshing drink to pair with the flavor-packed meal.
Also, we don't know if it's an all-the-time thing but everything from ordering to serving to payment were all lightning quick. The only waiting time was deciding the sides. That's surely a plus for us.
All in all, we simply cannot wait to go back again.
