She’s carefully caring for her teddy bear…
With gentleness 🤲 With focus 🩺 With love 💛
Not because she has to…
But because something inside her says:

But afraid of being treated like a number. Afraid no one will truly see them.
And what they will remember is not the technology…

I came across this post from Austral on Facebook, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. Thank you for sharing this kind of stories.

Healthcare holds some of the most powerful stories—stories of hope, persistence, resilience, and love. As a mom and someone who believes deeply in humanizing healthcare, this one really touched my heart.

Here is her story, in her own words:

“People are talking about the medical necessity of abortion to save the mother's life. I was one of those mothers. I was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer that was cutting off my airway at 20 weeks of pregnancy. I will never forget when the first doctor, an oncologist, mentioned abortion. We had gone through years of infertility to get pregnant. I knew I would rather die and give birth.

Then I met with another doctor who listed all of the problems the baby would have if I did not terminate. I stood my ground and refused. He said, ‘That is ok. The baby will probably spontaneously abort anyway.’

I searched and found doctors who supported me, and I gave birth to a healthy baby at 34 weeks. I will be celebrating 10 years cancer-free in May. I have a healthy, beautiful, bright, precious 10-year-old daughter who is a living reminder that doctors do not know everything.”

What most people don’t realize is this:

how clear the next step feels

how supported you feel while waiting

Healthcare becomes healing when systems work together —
so parents aren’t left navigating alone,
and care feels continuous instead of fragmented.

When clinical care, operations, communication, and safety are connected,

That’s what real care feels like.
