There comes a point in life when your Christmas list stops including things and starts including feelings. No amount of wrapped boxes under a tree can compare to the gift of waking up without anxiety. No expensive present beats the relief of a quiet home where voices don't rise in anger, where tension doesn't hang in the air like smoke.
We grow up believing happiness comes in packages with bows. But life teaches us differently. The things we end up wanting most desperately can't be ordered online or bought at any store. We want our loved ones to be healthy—truly healthy, in body and mind. We want homes that feel like sanctuaries, not battlefields. We want years that are gentle with us after ones that were cruel.
This wish is both simple and profound. It's what people who've weathered storms understand—that peace is priceless, that health is wealth, and that hope for better days is the most valuable gift of all. It's the wish of someone who's learned that the best things in life aren't things at all.
So this season, if someone asks what you want, don't be afraid to say it: "I want less worry and more laughter. I want healing where there's been hurt. I want us all to just be okay." Because sometimes the most extravagant wish is simply for life to be a little softer, a little kinder, a little more bearable. And there's no wrapping paper beautiful enough for that.
