I’ll be honest, I was nervous about training junior designers.
But stepping out of my comfort zone took me from safe leadership... to scalable leadership.
Managing senior designers felt safer. They’re already proven; they deliver.
And they operate at a high level.
But scaling a growing agency requires more than just comfort; it requires building capacity for the future.
I’m the founder and lead designer of C8C. Our design team has always been made up of senior, premium-level designers, not only to deliver high-end design work, but also to ease the pressure and maintain confidence in every project.
As our client base has grown, so have our deliverables.
A great problem to have...
But one that demands smart scaling.
I tried reaching out to other premium designers I’ve worked with before, but It’s not always easy to find the right fit.
That’s when my design manager said...
“It’s time to bring in junior designers.”
Was I ready?
I’ve never been formally trained to lead a team.
My management style comes from years of working with various agencies and leaders, adopting what made me feel supported and challenged as a designer.
Training junior designers wasn’t in the original plan, but it’s now essential.
This took me back to my first mentor, Virgie (Advertising Agency owner/CEO). Who took a chance on me as a junior designer yearssss ago.
I was the only female junior designer on a team of senior male designers and directors, handling global accounts like Unilever, Del Monte, Sanofi, and Pfizer.
She simply said:
“Sakin ka ha...” (Stick with me, okay?)
I stayed loyal, learned, and grew under her guidance.
That experience shaped how I approach mentorship today.
Attitude first. Skills can be built.
Today, I’m proud to share that our junior designers are already showing senior-level growth, with a mindset that makes them a joy to work with.
The key? Great attitude, passion for design excellence, and shared excitement when we see happy clients.
Now, I feel fully ready to open more doors for junior designers and scale with confidence.
