programming data types in two main categories

Primitive (or basic) types – these are like the building blocks... simple stuff such as numbers, text (strings), true/false (boolean). basically the raw, simple values.

Non-primitive (or complex) types – these are more advanced, built using the basics. like arrays, objects, lists, dictionaries… stuff that can hold multiple values or more complicated structures.

so yeah... simple way to remember:

primitive = single, simple value
non-primitive = collection or structure of values
