The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Taguig City convened for its 35th Regular Session, marking a continued legislative push toward a “Transformative, Lively, and Caring” (TLC) urban agenda. Presided over by Vice Mayor Arvin Ian Alit, the session emphasized that the council’s work goes beyond mere administrative projects—it is about “shaping the very future of the city.”

The 8th City Council, which is the most diverse in Taguig’s history following the successful integration of the EMBO (Enlisted Men’s Barrio) barangays, has focused this quarter on creating long-term blueprints for safety and stability.

Discussions during the session centered on resolutions aimed at strengthening disaster resilience and public order, ensuring that every Taguigeño feels secure in their community.

Vice Mayor Alit highlighted that every resolution passed is a “step toward continuous progress,” with a specific focus on making city services accessible to the farthest corners of the newly expanded districts.

“Hindi lamang mga proyekto ang pinagpaplanuhan… kundi ang kinabukasan ng lungsod,” VM Alit added.

TWO rogue police officers and their civilian accomplices were arrested by the combined forces of the Taguig City Police Station (TCPS) and the National Police Drug Enforcement Group (Pdeg) in a drug bust operation in the locality on Saturday afternoon.

In a statement, the TCPS said the operation was conducted at around 4:27 p.m. on March 7 in front of Landers, Arca South, Taguig City, where authorities arrested two Taguig policemen along with several civilian suspects.

The operation led to the recovery of around 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of P680,000, along with National Police (PNP)-issued fi****ms, cellular telephones, and identification cards.

As this developed, the local government of Taguig condemned the involvement of police personnel assigned in the city, reiterating that it maintains zero tolerance for illegal drugs and any form of misconduct in law enforcement.

Mayor Lani Cayetano said the incident reinforces the importance of efforts to keep law enforcement institutions accountable and trustworthy, noting that she has long urged authorities to ensure that the police force remains disciplined and free from illegal activities.

“Illegal drugs have no place in Taguig. Those who are sworn to enforce the law must be held to the highest standards,” she added.

Likewise, Cayetano expressed full support for the ongoing efforts of the PNP and the Southern Police District to cleanse their ranks and take decisive action against erring personnel.

“We commend the PNP for taking strong action. Efforts to cleanse the ranks are essential to maintaining the public’s trust. Peace and order remain the foundation of a Transformative, Lively, and Caring City. The people of Taguig deserve law enforcers who uphold integrity, professionalism, and the rule of law,” she added

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed the reported attempt to assault Ramil Madriaga inside the detention facility of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Taguig City.

In an interview with award-winning broadcast journalist Pinky Webb on Bilyonaryo News Channel’s On Point, NBI Director Melvin Matibag said that a team from the NBI immediately investigated the matter.

“Ang ginawa namin diyan, nagpadala kami ng team to investigate. Nakita doon na meron talagang attempt to harm him (Madriaga),” Matibag said. “He was pushed to the corner.”

“Ang nakakapagtaka po dito, itong inmate na ‘to, kalilipat lang. Galing ng Pasay, nilipat doon,” he added. “On the same day, meron siyang incident. I received a call from the lawyer, the lawyer who visited me. And nag-investigate po kami. Na-identify yung tao. Sinecure namin siya. To be sure.”

Matibag said that the investigators have yet to conclude their investigation into the case.

“Wala pa kaming konklusyon kung kabilang ito sa isang grupo o isolated na kaso, pero tinitiyak namin ang kaligtasan ng inmate,” the NBI chief said.

Madriaga was being eyed as a possible witness in the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte over alleged ill-gotten wealth. He claimed to have served as a former bagman for Duterte.
