Free Training for Filipino Seafarers to Begin August 3, 2026 | MARINO PH
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino seafarers will soon benefit from free maritime training under a new government initiative through the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP). Beginning August 3, 2026, all Regular Training Courses offered by the country’s only government maritime training institution will be provided free of charge.
The program covers STCW full courses, refresher courses, and management-level courses, helping reduce the financial burden on both aspiring and active seafarers while supporting their professional development and compliance with international standards. Meanwhile, Professional Development Courses (PDC) will remain available at reduced and affordable training fees.
The initiative was announced as part of the government’s recognition of the vital contribution of Filipino seafarers to global shipping and the national economy during the observance of the International Day of the Seafarer.
The free training program is expected to improve access to mandatory maritime education, strengthen the competitiveness of Filipino seafarers, and provide greater opportunities for career advancement in the international maritime industry.
