The SUC FAIR 2024, themed “Weaving Culture and Innovation for a Transformative, Resilient, and Globally-recognized Philippine Higher Education,” took place from July 9-11, 2024, at KCC Mall de Zamboanga. The event brought together representatives from leading State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across Region VII, including Cebu Normal University (CNU), Bohol Island State University (BISU), Cebu Technological University (CTU), and Siquijor State College (SSC). Each institution showcased its unique blend of cultural heritage and innovative contributions to higher education.
The fair featured a diverse range of activities aimed at celebrating and advancing Philippine culture and academic excellence. Booths and bazaars were abuzz with displays from each SUC, highlighting their distinctive products and innovations. At the CTU-Main Campus booth, under the leadership of Dr. Joseph C. Pepito, SUC President IV, and Dr. Lo**ta Velita, University Director of Resource Generation and Linkages, eco-friendly tote bags made a splash, showcasing the institution’s commitment to sustainable practices and creative entrepreneurship.
CTU-Argao, under the guidance of Dr. Hermes Alburo and Dr. Marjorie de Joya, Center In-chage , featured breadfruit and cocoyam products, emphasizing local agricultural diversity and culinary innovation. Meanwhile, CTU-Tuburan Campus, headed by Dr. Monifel S. Galagar, Production Director, and Asst. Prof. Vicel B. Albaño, FIC Director, dazzled visitors with a tantalizing array of snacks. Their offerings included Squash Lengua, Eggplant Lengua, Vegetable Crackers, Squash Crackers, Calabaza Bar Cookies, and Lemon Cookies, highlighting the institution’s expertise in culinary arts and sustainable food production.
The SUC FAIR 2024 also served as a platform for intellectual discourse through plenary talks and innovation exhibits. Scholars and educators from participating SUCs engaged in discussions on fostering resilience and global recognition within the Philippine higher education landscape. Cultural festivities, such as the "Bailes y Canciones" Cultural Show and the "Moda" Cultural Fashion Show, provided colorful glimpses into the rich tapestry of Philippine heritage, reinforcing the importance of cultural preservation alongside technological advancement.
It was a resounding success, underscoring the pivotal role of SUCs in driving innovation, cultural preservation, and academic excellence across the Philippines. The event not only celebrated the achievements of participating institutions but also sparked meaningful conversations on the future direction of Philippine higher education in a global context.
