Gadur, one of the Maranao produced brasswares, has a distinct tall-spired lid and a body decorated with floral and geometric designs. It is generally a container of any sort, a decorative object, a flower vase, or a centerpiece in modern homes. It is also a ceremonial gift for the bride’s family given by the groom’s relatives during wedding festivities. In Lanao del Sur and Cotabato, the quantity and quality of brass/bronze items in one’s residence indicate wealth and status.

This Gadur forms part of the National Ethnographic Collection of the National Museum of the Philippines from the Maranao ethnolinguistic group of Lanao del Sur. It has a height of 48 centimeters and a diameter of 17.5 centimeters.

NATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY. In celebration of the National Women's Day 2021, with the theme "Juana Laban sa Pandemya: Kaya!" the presents "Filipinas: Photographs by Isa Lorenzo."

The exhibition, "Filipinas: Photographs by Isa Lorenzo," features thirty black and white photographs of a select group of women who are all achievers in their respective fields in the arts, education, social work, civil society, and politics. This exhibition has been mounted in different places and has traveled the world for ten years. The artist-photographer Isa Lorenzo generously donated the Filipinas photographs to the National Museum of the Philippines as a gift to the Filipino nation in 2016. These photographs were exhibited in March 2016 at the National Museum of Anthropology as a highlight of its National Women's Month celebration. As a traveling exhibition, Filipinas was mounted at the National Museum Ilocos in Vigan City in 2017. Currently, this exhibition is at the National Museum Western-Southern Mindanao in Zamboanga City since 2019.

This traveling exhibition aims to raise awareness among Filipinos of these women's contributions to our society and inspire fellow Filipinas, especially the young women, to aspire more and excel in their chosen fields.

Please find out more about these women on our next posts, as we feature each one of them in observance of the National Women's Month Celebration.
