Perkins entered the world of investors with no prior expertise in professional marketing, business, or technology. Her only motivation was her belief in Canva.
Perkins has built a network of over 15 million Canva users since founding the company in 2013. He has been dubbed one of Australia's software unicorns.

Canva was financed by famous venture capitalist Mary Meeker this year and is currently valued at $2.5 billion.

Perkins launched a company focused only on yearbook designs, allowing schools to choose their own layouts and colors, stemming from the same problem of clumsy graphic design software.
She started the business in her mother's living room and soon took over the entire family home.

While most people assume that social media should not be used in the mornings, Melanie disagrees.
Her morning routine includes checking onto Twitter and journaling.
