A three-year-old girl has reportedly accused a janitor at Westminster International School, Bahria Town Phase 7, Rawalpindi, of inappropriate behaviour.
According to the family, the child told her mother what had happened and identified the alleged individual herself. When the family requested CCTV footage from the relevant area, they were reportedly informed that the camera was not working.
This raises serious questions. Why was a staff member positioned near the children’s washroom? Why was the relevant camera not operational, despite parents paying separate security charges?
These are allegations and must be investigated fairly and independently. But when a child speaks, adults have a responsibility to listen, protect and act without delay.
Schools are entrusted with our children’s safety. Transparency and accountability are not optional.
No child should ever feel unsafe at school.
