"The Ad Wasn't Broken. The Offer Was."
I get the same message almost every week: "My ads aren't working — can you fix them?"
So I open the account expecting to find a mess. Bad targeting, weak creative, budget spread too thin — something obvious. But 9 times out of 10, none of that is the problem. The targeting is fine. The creative is fine. The budget is fine.
The offer is the problem. And nobody wants to hear that, because it feels like the hardest thing to fix.
Last week it happened again. A store owner sent me his top-performing ad, convinced it just needed "better targeting." The creative looked great. The copy read: "Check out our new collection." I asked him one question: if a total stranger scrolled past this with zero context, would they actually care?
He paused. Then admitted — probably not.
That's the whole problem in one sentence. "Check out our new collection" isn't an offer. It's a shrug. It gives someone permission to look, but no reason to act. Compare that to something like "Get 20% off your first order + free shipping this week only" — now there's urgency, there's a number, there's a reason to stop scrolling and actually do something today instead of "later," which usually means never.
We rewrote the offer. Nothing else in the campaign changed — same targeting, same creative, same budget. The offer alone did the work.
So before you touch your ad settings again, ask yourself the same question I asked him: if a stranger saw this with zero context, would they care? If the honest answer is "maybe" — that's your fix. Not the algorithm.
If you're not sure whether your offer would pass that test, comment "OFFER" and I'll give you my honest read on it.
