The Letters of Qalqalah are Five:

Qaf (ق), Ta (ط), Ba (ب), Jeem (ج), and Dal (د)

They are commonly remembered by the phrase:

Qutbu Jadd (قُطْبُ جَدٍ)

How is Qalqalah Pronounced?

When any of these five letters carries a Sukoon (ْ) or becomes silent due to stopping (Waqf), it is pronounced with a light echoing or bouncing sound without adding any vowel (Fatha, Kasra, or Damma).

Examples:

قَدْ (Qad)

أَحَدْ (Ahad)

يَجْعَلْ (Yaj'al)

اقْرَأْ (Iqra')

يَطْمَعُ (Yatma'u)

Note:

If a Qalqalah letter has a vowel (Fatha, Kasra, or Damma), Qalqalah is not applied.

Qalqalah Sughra (Minor Qalqalah): When a Qalqalah letter with Sukoon appears in the middle of a word.

Qalqalah Kubra (Major Qalqalah): When stopping at the end of a word causes a Qalqalah letter to become silent, making the echoing sound more noticeable.
