A VERY AND DISCUSSION WITH PROF. DR. JAVED AKHTAR SALYANA (BZU) ON DEMOCRACY. AT DEPARTMENT OF PAKISTAN STUDIES GCUF Observes International Day of Democracy.

GCU University Faisalabad, under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf I. Azam, organized a special session to mark the International Day of Democracy. The discussion focused on the theme β€œDemocracy and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, with particular emphasis on SDG 16. Dr. Javed Sylana, Chairman of Pakistan Studies and Director Academics at BZU Multan, served as the keynote speaker. He stressed that democracy and SDG 16 are mutually reinforcing, highlighting the importance of participation, accountability, and human rights in achieving peace and justice. Faculty members Dr. Zil Huma, Dr. Iffat Tahira, and Dr. Tohid also shared their views on the role of democracy in sustainable development, the importance of peace and justice, and the need for strong institutions. Key challenges discussed included corruption, authoritarianism, exclusion of marginalized groups, and weak data systems. Prof. Dr. Abdul Qadir Mushtaq concluded the session with a vote of thanks, emphasizing the role of academia in promoting democratic values and sustainable development.
