Hunza Printing Press, registered as the pioneer printing press of the former Northern Areas, was established on May 7, 1970. The founding members were Mr. Baitham Khan (late) and Mr. Khuda Aman (late), with Mr. Zafar Hayat Paul (late) as the first manager.
The press was initially located on Sir Aga Khan Road and began with a traddel printing setup and a manual cutting machine. The first-ever printed material was a paper announcement regarding the establishment of the printing press, dated May 7, 1970.
Hunza Printing Press was officially registered on November 27, 1988, under the Registration of Firms, Section 58(1) of the Partnership Act 1932. The press has since met all the printing and publishing needs of the Northern Areas (now Gilgit-Baltistan).
In response to new trends and demands, offset machinery and related technology were incorporated in the late 1980s. Hunza Printing Press was also granted a publisher's prefix in the ISBN system.
Currently, the second generation of the Bercha family is managing the affairs of the printing press. Over the years, Hunza Printing Press has had the honor of providing technical training to hundreds of youth, helping them become self-sufficient in their earnings, while also offering employment opportunities that have contributed to the improvement of living standards in the region.
