North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, has supervised a ground test of a newly improved rocket engine, according to state media reports released on Sunday.
The development is seen as another significant move forward in the country’s weapons program.
Military analysts suggest that Pyongyang aims to utilize solid-fuel rocket engines for launching intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). These types of engines allow missiles to be launched more quickly, as they require minimal preparation before ignition.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) stated that the recent test was conducted as part of the nation’s ongoing defense development strategy under its current five-year plan, though it did not provide specific details about when or where the test took place.
