When the Jinns first Heard the Quran | Saad Ezzaouit | سعد أزويت

Theme and Subject-Matter:

The journey of the Prophet ﷺ to At-Taa’if resulted in high class achievements pertaining to the Da‘wah (call). One such achievement was the entering of some Jinns into the religion.

The Prophet ﷺ left At-Taa’if and returned to Makkah, and was hopeless of any positive response from Thaqeef. When he arrived at Nakhlah, he woke up in the middle of the night to perform prayer. At that time, the seven Jinn from Naseebeen, who are referred to in the Quran, passed by him and listened to his recitation. When the Prophet ﷺ finished his prayer, they left to inform their people, as they responded favorably to what they heard and embraced Islam. Consequently, Allah The Almighty reported about them to the Prophet ﷺ (what means):

{And [mention, O Muhammad], when We directed to you a few of the Jinn, listening to the Quran. And when they attended it, they said, “Listen quietly.” And when it was concluded, they went back to their people as warners. They said, “O our people, indeed we have heard a [recited] Book revealed after Moses confirming what was before it which guides to the truth and to a straight path.} [Quran 46:29-30]

These Jinn descended to the Prophet ﷺ while he was reciting the Quran. When they heard him, they said to each other, “Listen quietly.” The call that was dismissed by the polytheists of At-Taa’if was conveyed to the world of the Jinn, who answered the call of the Prophet ﷺ and communicated it to their fellows as did humans such as Abu Tharr Al-Ghifaari, At-Tufayl bin ‘Amr and Dhimaad Al-Azdi, may Allah be pleased with them, who communicated the message of Islam to their own people. In the world of the Jinn, there appeared callers who conveyed the message of Allah, who Says (what means): {O our people, respond to the Messenger of Allah and believe in him; Allah will forgive for you your sins and protect you from a painful punishment.} [Quran 46:31]

Not only the hearts of the human believers, but also the hearts of the Jinn, beat with passion for the Prophet ﷺ who had followers from the Jinn, bearing the standard of Tawheed (monotheism) and calling to Allah The Almighty, and verses about them were revealed to be recited until the time Allah The Almighty wills to inherit the earth and all that is in it.

Eid ul-Adha is a festival occasion for sacrifice, it reminds us of the need to act for a common good; this informs the holy story of Prophet Ibrahim's readiness to sacrifice his only son.
As we celebrate eid, may we ignite and consolidate the moral values that come along.
Happy Eid ul-Aldha.
