Fiverr buyers scam post
I want to share a very disappointing and stressful experience I recently faced as a Fiverr seller, so other freelancers can stay aware.
After delivering an animation project, Fiverr’s watermark was automatically applied, as usual. However, the buyer downloaded the delivery and removed the Fiverr watermark using third-party software. This was clearly proven when the buyer later sent me screenshots of the project — there was no Fiverr watermark visible at all.
Despite appreciating my work multiple times and clearly expressing satisfaction in our chats, the buyer suddenly canceled the order without giving any solid reason. The buyer also refused revisions, even though revisions were available and I repeatedly offered to make any changes if needed.
It became very clear that the buyer had already used my work after removing the watermark and then canceled the order to avoid paying.
What made this situation worse was that the buyer contacted me outside Fiverr on WhatsApp and threatened me, saying that if I didn’t cancel the order myself, they would report me using their accounts. This kind of pressure and blackmail was extremely disturbing.
On top of that, I discovered the buyer was using multiple Fiverr accounts, which is strictly against Fiverr’s policies. The same person contacted me from different accounts (including a seller account) to discuss the same project, even sending screenshots and asking about progress. They also tried to obtain my personal contact information, such as my phone number and social media details.
This experience caused me financial loss and unnecessary stress, and it highlights how important it is for platforms to protect honest sellers from bad-faith buyers.
Unfortunately, despite providing clear evidence of watermark removal, external threats, and multiple-account usage, Fiverr ultimately decided in favor of the buyer and canceled the order. This outcome was deeply discouraging and felt unfair after all the proof that was shared.
I am sharing this to spread awareness among fellow freelancers:
• Never move conversations outside the platform
• Keep all evidence and screenshots
• Report any threats, blackmail, or policy violations immediately
I still believe in fair platforms, but this experience shows that sellers must be extremely cautious. Seller protection matters just as much as buyer protection.
