The skyline of Karachi is currently covered with a thick white layer of haze. To some it might look aesthetically stunning however, for many it is extremely dangerous. Karachi’s air quality currently is at 266 AQI index which is defined as “very unhealthy” according to the US AQI (air quality index) with PM 2.5(particulate matter). This change in air quality is observed from the past three days continually and the trend shows this will continue for the next two days as well.
From the past three days the trend has shown the air quality ranging between “very unhealthy to hazardous” which is extremely dangerous for sensitive groups such as women, children and elderly suffering from respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses. Haze particles can give rise to acute symptoms such as cough, wheezing, shortness of breath and a feeling of tiredness and weakness. Particulate matter, especially those of PM2.5 can easily be inhaled into our lungs.
Tips to stay safe in bad air quality:
• Wear mask
• Avoid outdoor activities and stay indoors
• Use an air purifier to keep the particulate levels low
• Stay hydrated and consume fresh fruits and vegetables
• Take your medication if you’re prone to respiratory diseases
• Avoid driving in haze if visibility is low.
Take care and Be Safe, Dont Forget to Wear Mask Plz.
