Promoting the Use of Zinc and Low Osmolarity ORS (LoORS) in Combination to Reduce Diarrhoea-Related Mortality in Children Under Five
Greenstar Social Marketing (GSM) , in collaboration with Nutrition International (NI), hosted a Provincial Advocacy Seminar on promoting Zinc and Low Osmolarity ORS (LoORS) for childhood diarrhoea management in Lahore on Thursday, 10 September 2026.
The seminar brought together key stakeholders from the health and development sectors to strengthen advocacy for the uptake of the Zinc + LoORS in combination and its registration by DRAP as combi pack in Pakistan.
The event provided a platform for experts and stakeholders to discuss “Reducing Under-5 Diarrhoeal Burden in Pakistan: Evidence, Gaps and Solutions,” with participation from government, WHO, professional associations and development partners. Key participants included Mr. Shehzad Afzal, National Program Manager, Child Survival & Development, at Nutrition International; Dr. Alamgir Rao, Deputy Secretary, Technical, Department of Health & Population, Punjab; Dr. Jamshed Ahmed, Head of Office, WHO Punjab; Prof. Shahid Malik, President PMA, Punjab; Dr Ali Arshad Member PPA Punjab; Dr. Naeem Zafar, Senior Consultant Paediatrician and Dr. Umer Awan, Deputy Director, Health & Population Department.
Dr. Syed Azizur Rab (CEO, Greenstar Social Marketing), during his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of availability and uptake of the Zinc and LoORS combination pack, highlighting Greenstar’s commitment to this initiative in collaboration with Nutrition International, and expressed hope for continued collective support in advancing this life-saving intervention.
Greenstar is building momentum at national level through advocacy, stakeholder engagement and demand generation to strengthen the case for wider availability and uptake of Zinc and LoORS in combination, supporting efforts to improve diarrhoea management and reduce preventable deaths among children under five in Pakistan.
