The Mohmand Dam, Pakistan’s tallest concrete-face-rock-fill dam (CFRD) and the fifth tallest in the world, is on track for completion by 2026-27.

Situated on the River Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mohmand District, this multipurpose dam will store 1.29 million acre-feet (MAF) of water, irrigate 18,237 acres of new land, enhance existing irrigation systems, and generate 800 MW of clean energy, with an estimated annual benefit of Rs 51.6 billion. Additionally, it will provide 300 million gallons of drinking water daily to Peshawar.

During his visit, Chairman WAPDA, Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd), inspected critical construction sites, including the main dam, diversion tunnels, spillway, and powerhouse. A progress review meeting was conducted to ensure the project stays on schedule for timely completion.

The dam is set to significantly contribute to flood control, agriculture, and clean energy generation. Ongoing work includes excavation, concrete pouring, and tunnel development, with efforts focused on meeting deadlines and maximizing project benefits.
