With Eidul Azha approaching, cattle trading has increased across the city, but delays in setting up official livestock markets have forced traders onto roadsides, turning major streets into temporary animal bazaars.
This has led to heavy traffic congestion, sanitation issues, and growing piles of waste in several areas. Residents report difficulty commuting as goats and cattle are tied along roads and sales continue directly on busy streets.
Many citizens are also travelling to nearby districts in search of affordable animals, while others continue buying locally according to budget.
Authorities have yet to fully activate official cattle markets, including those under local municipal bodies, leading to uncontrolled roadside trading across Hyderabad.

The Punjab government has announced a plan to distribute 10,000 free electric bikes to eligible students across the province under a new welfare initiative for Zakat-eligible individuals.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the sub-committee of the Punjab Zakat and Ushr Council, chaired by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Zakat and Ushr, Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah.

Nasrullah said the scheme has been launched on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, adding that 2,000 electric bikes will be distributed in the first phase.
The meeting was attended by Senator Dr. Ghaus Muhammad Khan Niazi, MPA Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, Parliamentary Secretary for Zakat and Ushr Zubair Ahmed, along with other provincial assembly members, the Administrator Zakat and Ushr Punjab, and senior officials of the department.

Council members unanimously approved the distribution programme, which will benefit both male and female students who meet the Zakat eligibility criteria.
Nasrullah added that the electric bike initiative is part of wider efforts to support underprivileged groups by providing affordable transport and promoting eco-friendly mobility. He also said more welfare projects for Zakat beneficiaries will be introduced in the future.

On Thursday, the Sindh government directed a strict crackdown against public service vehicles operating without valid route permits and fitness certificates, or those using expired documents, according to an official notification issued by the Transport and Mass Transit Department.

The directive noted that a significant number of both inter-city and intra-city transport vehicles are either running without proper documentation or are using expired permits and certificates.

Authorities have been instructed to ensure full enforcement of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965 and Motor Vehicles Rules 1969, making it compulsory for all vehicles to carry valid route permits, fitness certificates, and other necessary documentation.

Pakistan will divert 35 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes to international markets in 2026 under its annual agreements with Qatar and ENI, while still importing supplies to meet peak winter demand, according to The News.

Under the 2026 Annual Delivery Plan, the country is set to import 88 LNG cargoes. Out of these, 24 term cargoes from Qatar will be diverted under the Net Proceeds Differential (NPD) clause. No diversions will take place in January and February due to higher seasonal demand.

Diversions will begin from March and continue throughout the year, while additional ENI cargoes will also be redirected under separate arrangements with Pakistan LNG Limited.

In total, 35 LNG cargoes are expected to be diverted in 2026, potentially saving over $1 billion in foreign exchange. However, the government has clarified that any financial impact from LNG diversions will not be absorbed by the state and may be passed on to consumers in relevant sectors.

Despite the diversion plan, Pakistan is projected to have surplus LNG cargoes due to declining gas demand, which could also help reduce import pressure and support local gas availability at lower costs.

More than 13.6 million children were vaccinated on the opening day of Pakistan’s nationwide anti-polio campaign, as health authorities intensify efforts to eradicate the virus that remains endemic in the country.

The first anti-polio drive of the year was launched from February 2 to 8, aiming to immunize over 45 million children across Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Pakistan is among only two countries in the world where polio is still endemic, along with Afghanistan. According to official figures, 31 cases were reported in 2025, compared to 74 cases in 2024.PolioCampaign.

The Ministry of Power Division has termed reports false that claimed the federal government has made it compulsory for solar users to obtain a licence from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

According to the reports, recent amendments regarding solar systems allegedly required all consumers installing solar panels to secure a NEPRA licence, suggesting that the federal government had introduced this condition for net metering users.

However, on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Power Division strongly rejected these claims, clarifying that licensing regulations for solar net metering already exist and are fully under NEPRA’s regulatory authority. He explained that the licensing process is handled by the regulator, while distribution companies (DISCOs) are responsible for enforcing these rules. He added that attributing such requirements to federal government directives is “completely incorrect.”

The spokesperson further stated that neither the Power Division nor the federal government was consulted before the publication of such reports, which led to unnecessary confusion among the public.
He also noted that in February, the government abolished the net metering system of electricity unit exchange and reduced the contract period from seven to five years, a move seen as shifting IPP capacity payment pressures toward solar consumers.

Under the revised mechanism, DISCOs may charge up to Rs50 per unit for electricity consumption while purchasing solar-generated electricity from users at an estimated rate of around Rs11 per unit.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed an agreement to construct two sections of the M6 Motorway, which will link Karachi to Sukkur.

Federal Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan welcomed the development, describing the project as a “key gateway” for Pakistan’s future progress and an important move toward economic growth.
He stated that the government had successfully launched a project that had been delayed for more than three decades, achieving this milestone within just two years of focused efforts.

The minister said the M6 Motorway is the “missing economic link” in the country’s north-south transport corridor, making its completion essential for long-term national development.
He further added that this motorway is one of Pakistan’s most important infrastructure projects, expected to serve as a backbone for future trade and logistics activities.

According to him, once completed, the missing link will transform the transport system by enabling uninterrupted travel from Karachi Port to Peshawar and Gilgit through a continuous motorway network.

He also highlighted that the 306-kilometre, six-lane motorway will include modern toll collection and safety systems, along with 15 interchanges and 10 advanced service areas to support both passengers and commercial transport.
