comes again to remind us of what we lost. You will always be remembered.
December lies heavy on the heart.
December 16th marks the fifth anniversary of the APS martyrs.
It is a tragedy that single handedly shook the nation to its core.
Hour upon hour we would see these bright eyed shiny children plastered on our tv screens, another name added to the list, another body recovered.
It was gruesome.
The total death count reached a hundred and forty four.
144.
The loss of a child is life long agony, its real cost is unimaginable.
It's midnight birthday wishes hanging heavy in the air, early morning fights to get to school on time left uncontested, it's mom-cooked biryani left uneaten, it's academic results never cheered, it's job interviews never anxiously anticipated , it's a love story never lived, it's a lifetime of celebrations, congratulations and condolences left unsaid.
There is something devastating about an anniversary.
You feel the loss of your loved one everyday, like a hole in your heart that will never heal, but an anniversary brings with it a heart-rending recounting of all events of that fateful day.
On this day, let's pray for the grieving parents.
Let's pray that they find courage to face each day, let's pray that their hearts can heal.
Let's pray for our beloved homeland.
Let's pray it requires less bravery from our children.
Let's pray that every night mothers can tuck their little ones in warm beds, and kiss their foreheads.
Let's pray we can hold our child to our hearts content, and not be left looking in closets and going through old clothes to feel a living molecule.
Please say a prayer for all victims of the APS attack.
Say a prayer for their families.
Here’s to hoping the beautiful children who were too good for this world find eternal peace in a heavenly abode.
Ameen.
