Water is a true blessing of God and compulsory for all living beings.Today to obtain pure water has become a major issue in the whole World.Every country has a specific requirement which they try hard to fulfil with their level best.SAAF PAANI project is one of the similar issue of Punjab government.Punjab government introduced saaf paani company as a role model for rural and urban but destroy because of these corrupt bureaucrats and politicians.Twenty seven billion rupees were granted for this project but they didn’t spend a single penny on it.Waseem Ajmal was CEO of this project,whose salary was 20 lacks.The salary was high profile package of every member of this project,and settled there office in Ali Imran’s office (son in law of Shabaz sharif). Rent of which was also to much,so that the goal could be achieved. If this project would be completed then by today we would be able to get pure drinking, hygienic water. This could not happened just because of these corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.
Safe drinking water is everyone's utmost priority with the evolution of life. Unhealthy water causes many waterborne diseases Such as Cholera, diphtheria etc. Moreover, it also effects health of both mother and child. According to sone survey reports 79% of water samples collected from rural areas were marked as unsafe. The province was none other then Punjab. Similarly, 88% of samples from other province was also characterised as unsafe to use. importantly, people there were affected by many waterborne diseases too.
Lahore is the second biggest city of Pakistan. By some reports it has been told that about 160 million liters of ground water is extracted daily by hand pumps, tubewells and motor pumps after which it is supplied to residents all over lahore. Recreational and industrial purposes are excluded from the number. All the system is under many agencies like Water and Sanitation Agency, Public Health Engineering Department and some muncipal administrations. Some drastic changes are also made in the water table of Central Lahore. Persons involved in this project told that ground water level is depleting day by bay in Lahore. The rate is almost from 2.5 - 3 feet per year. They also said that by 2025 about 230 feet water will be fallen which is surely a terrific amount. An alarming data was also giveb by WASA ie. 600 - 1000 feet has been dropped in Lahore. Gradually, there would be no water reservoir and if any, It would be surely contaminated by microbes and diseases. Industrial wastes is also been thrown in fresh water reservoirs from decades. Theb how could we expect to get fresh and hygienic water after such activities?
The ratio of water depletion is though very high but big cities like Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala etc are also facing the same issue. Karachi on the other hand is going through a bleak situation due to its humungous and tremendous size of population. Sewerage system of Karachi and Hyderabad because of the issue is affected greatly and is very poor. Dirty fords are seen flowing through Hyderabad which further give rise to filthy smell and diseases. People of that area are always found complaining about unchecked sewerage systems.
Another issue contributing to water scarcity issue is unchecked development of Urban areas, there scheming and all. Urbanisation is totally a science. Modernisation means to tackle situations with sageness. Future should be the utmost priority while making a decision. Better planning is prerequisite to deal with the challenge of urbanisation and huge population. The government must follow a smooth strategy to get rid of this matter.
Activities of citizens, such as wasting water, and frittering away of natural assets also contribute to water depletion. These Acts should be controlled as well as policy making is required to ward off imminent water crisis.
