The caretaker government has implemented another round of price hikes for petrol and diesel in Pakistan. The new rates, which will be effective from September 16, 2023, set the price of petrol at Rs331.38 per litre and diesel at Rs329.18 per litre.
This marks the fourth consecutive increase in petroleum product prices, with petrol seeing a substantial rise of Rs26.02 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) increasing by Rs17.34 per litre. These successive hikes have collectively raised the rates of these products by more than 30% since July 31.

A powerful earthquake in Morocco has killed more than 1,000 people and injured hundreds more, the country's deadliest in more than six decades, toppling houses in remote mountain villages where rescuers dug through rubble for survivors.
The quake struck in Morocco's High Atlas mountains late on Friday night, damaging historic buildings in Marrakech, the nearest city to the epicentre, while the most badly affected areas were in the mountains nearby.
The Interior Ministry said 1,037 people had been killed and another 672 injured by the quake, gauged by the US Geological Survey at a magnitude of 6.8 with an epicentre some 72 km (45 miles) southwest of Marrakech.

Used car imports have risen and crossed production numbers of some original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in Pakistan and this situation at a time of import control measures is beyond comprehension, remarked a top official of Indus Motor Company (IMC).
“Day-by-day increase in imports of used cars has been severely impacting the already affected local auto industry,” Chief Executive Officer Ali Asghar Jamali said, adding that more than 6,000 used cars were imported in financial year 2022-23.
Of those, more than 1,200 units were brought in May and June this year.
Talking to a group of journalists on Wednesday, the IMC CEO said that continuous imports of used cars were nullifying the localisation target achieved by Pakistan’s auto industry.
