Wild Military Macaw Breeding Season Update – Part 2 🦜🌿

At El Santuario de las Guacamayas in Jalisco, Mexico, the 2024/25 breeding season is drawing to a close, and what a season it’s been!

Of the 14 chicks from active artificial nest boxes, 12 have now successfully fledged, joining their wild parents in the surrounding forest after months of careful monitoring by the sanctuary team and their resident biologist.

This dedicated, family-run sanctuary has installed 30 artificial nest boxes to give these Vulnerable Military Macaws a better chance at survival and welcomes visitors to learn more about Mexico’s native wildlife.

Camera traps have also captured glimpses of deer, pumas, skunks, grey foxes, and more on the property!. Protecting parrots means protecting entire ecosystems where wildlife can flourish.

Our four months in Mexico are wrapping up! 🇲🇽

We’re super grateful for the time spent with family, the chance to support ongoing projects remotely, and the opportunity to build new – and strengthen existing – connections with people and initiatives across Mexico.

A few highlights from recent months include:

🐒 Getting up close with howler monkeys in Chiapas
✍️ Ghostwriting four articles for industry publications
🦜 Learning LOTS of fascinating facts about bird anatomy
⛰️ Writing the new "Conserve" and “Get Involved” sections for the Discover Carpathians website
🤝 Becoming an official partner of the Carpathian National Nature Park

Over the next few months, we’re excited for:

🇵🇱 Moving back to Poland!
🖥️ Finalizing and launching the updated Pedaling Pictures website
🇺🇦 Continuing to support Ukraine’s Green Recovery through new storytelling campaigns and partnerships
🧳 Traveling to Albania, Moldova, Ukraine and Denmark, blending work and fun along the way!

We agree, vultures are amazing!

Vultures. They've had a bad rap. But the truth is, these scavengers of the skies are providing a crucial waste disposal service.

By feeding on dead animals, digesting dangerous toxins and recycling nutrients, vultures clear away harmful carcasses, prevent the spread of deadly diseases and keep the circle of life turning. It's a dirty task but someone's got to do it! Share this post if you agree that it's time to celebrate nature's clean-up crews!

Earlier this week, on April 7, the First Stakeholder Forum on the Green Recovery of Ukraine 🇺🇦 was held in Kyiv and online, led by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the UN Environment Programme, and the Carpathian Convention.

We were thrilled to be invited to take part in this event—joining over 700 professionals dedicated to supporting Ukraine’s green recovery, ensuring access to a healthier environment, and paving the way for a new and better quality of life.

Together with our partners from Promocarpathians, we participated in the Nature and Biodiversity thematic panel—an especially valuable opportunity to listen, learn, and contribute to the conversation on both the opportunities and the challenges of Ukraine’s green recovery. 🌱

We were very inspired to hear that national parks—especially the Ukrainian Carpathians—will play a key role in this transformation, serving as a living laboratory for EU pilot projects that can be scaled across the country.

What also became clear is that there is a wealth of knowledge and untapped capacity, not only within Ukraine but also beyond its borders, that can help shape a more resilient and sustainable future.

The updated DiscoverCarpathians.com website will be just in time for summer. ☀️ The website promotes responsible tourism and environmental stewardship in Ukraine's first and largest national park, the Ukrainian National Nature Park, which is also the biggest protected area in the Carpathian region.

Here’s what’s in store:
✅ A brand-new Conservation section to spotlight the region’s natural and cultural assets
✅ Insights on threats to the Carpathians and how we can help protect them
✅ Updates on current projects and how they support preserving the Carpathian National Nature Park

Our collaboration has been entirely remote so far, but this summer, Joe and I plan to visit Ukraine to finalize some ongoing projects in person—and capture some great photo and video footage!

Hey everyone! We know we’ve been seriously absent from social media for a while—but we’re still here!

Joe and I have been on the move a lot over the past few years—living in the USA, Albania, Mexico, Poland, back to Mexico, and soon back to Poland! 🌍 And being constantly on the go isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

We’ve been deeply involved in some really fulfilling projects—including launching another marketing agency in the US that took our full focus for a long time. With so much happening, documenting it all hasn’t been a top priority.

But finally… we’re thrilled to be shifting our energy back to the fulfilling work we do through Pedaling Pictures 🚲🎥 and more actively sharing the work we do with organizations around the world.

We’re currently revamping our website (it should be ready in a few months!), and we can’t wait to share more about the amazing organizations we’ve collaborated with and the exciting projects ahead.

More updates coming soon, but for now, here’s a pic of us on the day we moved to Poland! 🇵🇱✨
