الرسالة الأخيرة لشيرين أبو عاقلة

كانت الطريق إلى جنين اعتيادية، الأحراش البعيدة كانت تسمعني وأنا أدنن أغنيتي الأخيرة، ولم يخطر لي أبدًا أن يكون هذا المشوار الأخير إلى جنين، فالمشاوير من وإلى جنين ليس فيها آخر.
كنتُ مستعدة تمامًا لتغطية خبرٍ جديد، فهذه وسيلتي الوحيدة في الدفاع عن فلسطين، هذا البلد الذي ينزفُ أخبارًا ودماء. تخيلت أن يكون خبري القادم هو استشهاد فدائي، أو هدم منزل أو إصابة أصدقاء قدامى كانوا يعبرون الطريق.
لم يخطر لي أبدًا أن ينقل زملائي الخبر الأخير... وأن يكون الخبر العاجل على شاشة الجزيرة:
استشهاد مراسلة الجزيرة شيرين أبو عاقلة.
ولكن.. كما جرت العادة معي ومع زملائي... إننا ننقل دائما الأخبار التي لا يمكن أن تحدث إلا في فلسطين.

The road to Jenin was a regular one. The distant woods could hear me singing my last song, and it never occurred to me that this was the last time to go to Jenin.The walks to and from Jenin are endless.
I was fully prepared to cover news, as this is my only means of defending Palestine, a country that is bleeding.I imagined my next news story would be a martyrdom, a house demolished or old friends crossing the road injured.
It never occurred to me that my journalist friends would report the last news... and that the breaking news would be on Al Jazeera screen: the martyrdom of Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Aqleh.
But.. As usual with me and my fellow journalists... We always convey news that can only occur in Palestine!
