According to a recent survey by the experiences website GetYourGuide, 98% of respondents indicated that experiences are the most important factor when planning a leisure trip, influencing both the choice of destination and the length of stay.
In open-ended responses, travelers list four distinct sources of inspiration when deciding where to go: Practicalities, experiences, recommendations, and media. “Practicalities” top the list, but “experiences” were considered next, above (family and friend) recommendations and media articles, the study reveals.
Travelers most frequent consideration for deciding how long to stay was “lots of things to do” — far above budget, weather, or accommodations
GetYourGuide also mentions that the “Explorers” segment are the most valuable travelers, and whose booking patterns are most important to understand.
The survey indicates that Inspiration and research begins online propelled by social media, blogs, and online streaming, while Explorers rely on online search and OTAs to decide what to do.
