Non–verbal Club is a communication design studio. We're unashamedly dedicated to it. This ensures that our response is unique to each challenge we are given.

Non–verbal Club – formerly known as Atelier Martino&Jaña – is a design studio, focused on providing custom design solutions and communication consultancy to clients looking for work that goes beyond their expectations. Our motivation comes from our many passions and at the centre of our concern is in what ways is made visible – through a careful, skilled and informed use of typography. We value in

telligent and informed perspectives, which we support through an intensive process of research, strategy development and collaboration networks. Every project we undertake is a dedicated balancing act – between craft and technology, between rationality and poetry, between expectation and surprise.

The sun is shining on our studio window 🌞 and we thought it would be a nice opportunity to make a quick video and some photographs of Lost Causes: Possibility and Policy in Housing Competitions 🏘️, the publication that resulted from the programme with the same name, an investigation and critical reflection on architecture competitions through the scope of proposals that didn't win the first place.

Edited by João Manuel Miranda and Tiago Antero, with texts by them and Luís Santiago Baptista, Leo Van Broeck, Josep Maria Borrell Bru and Marta Sequeira, and interviews of / projects contributions by aspa, Campos Costa Arquitectos, Conde Paradela, Cossement Cardoso, depA architects, Figueiredo+Pena, MESA, Nuno Reis Pereira, Pablo Pita Arquitectos, Paula Santos arquitectura, ponto atelier and PURA.

Fosfeno is a film centred on the Garrano horse, native to the Iberian Peninsula, exploring the juxtaposition of myth, animal and man, blending reality and imaginary realms withing the beautiful region of Minho.

This film is also a work of love and resilience from all involved, particularly our dear friend Miguel Filgueiras, who we'd like to dearly thank for the invitation to work on the movie credits design and campaign.

On the recap of Camino Irreal, BoCA's 2025 edition, we're very happy to share the new web platforms we've worked on together with BoCA's team.

A complex and interconnected website between the association's On Going and Biennial programmes, able to create new readings of past, present and future programmes, from the huge event archive from previous editions to new commissions and partnerships, drawing a contemporary framework to display present and future biennials, educational and participation events and artistic collaborations.

It was our great pleasure to truly develop this platform together with the visions and hard work of
John Romão, Suzanne Marivoet, Maria Barbosa de Carvalho (Veludo), Pedro Meireis and all others involved.

Lost Causes is a project critically reflecting on unbuilt architecture projects developed for competitions.

Created by Tiago Antero and João Manuel Miranda, and structured in two main axis (Possibility and Politics) it counts with the participation of the architecture studios aspa, Campos Costa Arquitetos, Conde Paradela, Cossement Cardoso, depA, Figueiredo + Pena, MESA Atelier, Nuno Reis Pereira, Pablo Pita Arquitectos, paula santos arquitectura, ponto atelier and PURA, as well as Luís Santiago Baptista, Leo Van Broeck, Josep Maria Borrel Bru and Marta Sequeira.

We had the pleasure of creating a visual language for the communication of these Lost Causes. Publication will be launched soon.
