Qatar’s skies will be illuminated by the rare “Blue Moon” phenomenon on May 31, when a second full Moon occurs within the same calendar month. According to the Qatar Calendar House, the event, which happens only once every two to three years, will be visible across the country on Sunday evening. Despite its name, the Moon will not appear blue and will retain its usual appearance.

ستشهد سماء قطر ظاهرة «القمر الأزرق» النادرة في 31 مايو، وذلك عند اكتمال القمر للمرة الثانية خلال الشهر الميلادي نفسه. ووفقاً لدار التقويم القطري، فإن هذه الظاهرة، التي تتكرر مرة كل عامين إلى ثلاثة أعوام تقريباً، ستكون مرئية في أنحاء البلاد مساء الأحد. وعلى الرغم من تسميته بـ«القمر الأزرق»، فإنه لن يظهر باللون الأزرق، بل سيحتفظ بمظهره المعتاد.

Qatar has firmly opposed the introduction of permanent transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz, saying such charges would ultimately be passed on to consumers and increase global costs. Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said Qatar and its Gulf partners reject any long-term toll system for vessels using the strategic waterway. However, he noted that temporary fees linked to specific purposes, such as mine-clearing operations or other short-term requirements, could be open to negotiation as discussions continue over the future regulation of traffic through one of the world’s most important energy and trade routes.

أكدت قطر معارضتها الشديدة لفرض رسوم عبور دائمة على السفن في مضيق هرمز، مشيرة إلى أن مثل هذه الرسوم ستنعكس في نهاية المطاف على المستهلكين وتؤدي إلى زيادة التكاليف عالمياً. وخلال مشاركته في حوار شانغريلا في سنغافورة، قال سعادة الشيخ سعود بن عبدالرحمن آل ثاني، نائب رئيس مجلس الوزراء ووزير الدولة لشؤون الدفاع، إن قطر وشركاءها في دول الخليج يرفضون أي نظام رسوم طويل الأمد على السفن التي تعبر هذا الممر المائي الاستراتيجي. ومع ذلك، أوضح أن الرسوم المؤقتة المرتبطة بأغراض محددة، مثل عمليات إزالة الألغام أو المتطلبات قصيرة الأجل الأخرى، يمكن أن تكون محل تفاوض، في ظل استمرار المناقشات بشأن تنظيم حركة الملاحة عبر أحد أهم الممرات التجارية وممرات الطاقة في العالم.
