رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنْزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ
“My Lord, I am in desperate need of whatever good You send me.”

Soon after this dua, Allah granted him:

“This hadith separates normal entrepreneurs from truly blessed ones…

The Prophet ﷺ warned:
‘Merchants will be resurrected with the wicked —
except the one who has Taqwa, gives charity, and is completely truthful.’

Your business is not judged by revenue…
It’s judged by your intention, honesty, and how you treat people.
Build wealth that follows you into the Akhirah — not wealth that follows you into regret.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، يَحْيَى بْنُ خَلَفٍ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَرَأَى النَّاسَ يَتَبَايَعُونَ فَقَالَ " يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ " . فَاسْتَجَابُوا لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَرَفَعُوا أَعْنَاقَهُمْ وَأَبْصَارَهُمْ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ " إِنَّ التُّجَّارَ يُبْعَثُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فُجَّارًا إِلاَّ مَنِ اتَّقَى اللَّهَ وَبَرَّ وَصَدَقَ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ . وَيُقَالُ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ أَيْضًا .

From his father, from his grandfather, that he went with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to the Musalla, and he saw the people doing business so he said: 'O people of trade!' and they replied to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turning their necks and their gazes towards him, and he said: Indeed the merchants will be resurrected on the Day of judgement with the wicked, except the one who has Taqwa of Allah, who behaves charitably and is truthful.'"
[Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Hasan Sahih. And they also say Isma'il bin 'Ubaidullah bin Rifa'ah.

A powerful reminder from Sahih al-Bukhari:
When Sa’d (ra) wanted to give away most of his wealth in charity, the Prophet ﷺ told him that it is better to leave your family wealthy than to leave them poor and begging others.

Islam teaches balance — give charity, but also take responsibility for those who depend on you.
Even the food you place in your wife’s mouth is counted as charity.

For Muslim entrepreneurs:
✔️ Earn halal
✔️ Provide for your family
✔️ Give with wisdom
✔️ Plan with barakah

“In Qur’an 2:276, Allah clearly reminds us: He destroys riba (interest) and increases charity.

Riba may look profitable in the short term, but it removes blessings and brings spiritual and financial harm. Charity may look like a loss, but Allah multiplies it with barakah.

Choose earnings that are halal, pure, and protected. Choose the path that grows your wealth with Allah’s blessing, not one that leads to loss.

May Allah purify our income and increase our charity. آمين.”
