We know it’s almost a cliché, and for the design world, Dieter Rams’ name is certainly not new. However, we’re doing an exercise for our other followers who perhaps haven’t yet heard of the great and unmistakable designer from the Braun factory from 1961 until 1995.
If you want to embark on a journey and discover Dieter Rams’ world, we warmly invite you to watch the documentary by at hustwit.com/rams. This will help you understand how Rams’ design has forever influenced the way we interact with everyday objects. And specifically, where Apple drew inspiration for the design of the products we’re now dependent on.
At BEAM, we are profoundly inspired by Rams, especially by his idea that “Good design is as little design as possible. Less, but better – because it concentrates on the essential aspects, and the products are not burdened with non-essentials.
How do we practically draw inspiration from Dieter Rams? We seek him out in all museums, we try to get our hands on as many of his products as possible, to study them, to establish direct contact. We recently took the photos in Munich during a client visit, where we also stopped by and discovered some of Braun’s works – as well as an extensive collection of object design.
