Naming and visual identity for Blackwall — a digital security company protecting online businesses from the threat of automated bots.

Oké Design created the name and visual identity for the brand as well as some initial implementations including website, user platform, event material, printed matter and presentation decks before handing over to the in-house design team.
The name was derived from the world of cyberpunk and refers to the fictional concept of the Blackwall — a virtual fortification separating the realm of humans from the realm of artificial intelligence. To ”Stay Human” then became the guiding principle for the brand and the differentiator that helps them stand out in the crowded and impersonal space of cyber security.

The identity was built on the idea of shifting walls or panels suggesting movement reminiscent of a siren or a scanner. The symbol embodies the idea of filtering out intruders by incorporating three turning panels that symbolize closing doors or server stacks disappearing in the distance. The angled geometry of the symbol informs the shape of the typography, icons and background patterns. It also lays the foundation for the visual element that acts as a framing device for images and text throughout the identity.

Visual Identity for Sveriges Lärare — The Swedish Teachers Union. See the full case at www.oke.design

Sveriges Lärare is the result of a merger between two of Swedens biggest unions. Having two very different cultures, the challenge became striking the right balance between a sense of academic gravitas and an expression of warmth and lightheartedness.

The symbol of the raised hand became the unifying element of the identity, representing the curiosity of learning as well the democratic vote of every individual member of the organisation. Hidden in the hand is also the letters S & L. The hands in the design system can take on different expressions and meaning depending on the context.

Visual identity for Trackstack — see the full case at www.oke.design

Trackstack streamlines the workflow for finding up-and-coming artists by collecting and sorting all demo-tracks sent to DJ:s and labels in one place.

The symbol consists of the letter T for Trackstack, with one of the horisontal bars raised to create a unique and memorable shape. The raised bar represents a track while the angled shape symbolises an arrow that highlights or promotes the track.

The visual metaphor of a track also act as a unifying element throughout the visual identity. The tracks are made up of elongated rectangles in gradient colors that can be stacked and combined in different ways to create interesting layouts, while reflecting the core functionality of the app.

Welcome to Oké Designs’ new office! I’ve been looking for a whole year all over Stockholm for the perfect space. And now I’ve finally found it. Or actually it was my mom who found it. Some distant cousin or whatever was looking for someone to take over their lease. And I was like ”Sure mom… sounds great”. And to my surprise it was actually great.

So I repainted the place, brought my lucky orange tree and my grandma’s old leather lounge chair and set up shop.

Feel free to swing by for a coffee at Södermannagatan 41B!

New website is live! Go check it out at https://www.oke.design/

The idea was to make it a more of a living thing than your average portfolio website, which updates about once a year. So the projects are divided into Identities which showcase bigger projects in more detail, and snippets, which are good for showing smaller projects and quick experiments. Also, for all the unused concepts that have accumulated over the years, there’s a logo shop.

The site was built by me, with some custom coding help from Flow Guys, Leon Barth and my friends Eric and Malin.
Hope you like it!

The mark for Oké Design is, as you can probably tell, me. A modernist-ified, geometric version of me, with a little swoosh to represent my wannabe-manga hair. It has become my alter ego over the past few months.

He represents how I think about the world when I’m deep in my design mindset; everything is structured, purposeful, stripped down to it’s essence. He embodies that hopeless dream of trying to bring order to everything. To strip down the complexity of the human experience down into a few perfect black and and white circles and polygons, laid out in a neat little grid.

I spent a lot of time fantasizing about becoming a big cool design studio with employees and receptionists and turtle necks. But after some thinking, I realized that’s not me. I don’t want to be one of those big agencies. I’m a one-man studio. Flexible, fast and nimble, but with all the capabilities of a big agency. So that’s when the idea for this logo was born. This is Oké Design, a one-man graphic design studio.

New website will be released on Friday! I’m excited to share what I’ve been working on during the past year. Check it out at the fancy new URL oke.design, which cost me a small fortune to acquire.
