๐Ÿ“ Level 4 of Fortune Centre (Between Rochor and Bugis)
๐Ÿ’ฐ Expected damage $15 - $25

Fortune Centre is a food haven and tucked away in level 4 is Ramen Story which serves a reasonably priced ramen given its ingredients.

The black gold king ramen has a nice fatty char siu, pork belly and a big dumpling. The broth is abit spicy which may not be preferred for people who like the pure tonkotsu broth but was quite rich and I almost finished the entire soup. The meats are generally nicely cooked and are very tender.

You have the option to choose between mee pok noodle and standard ramen noodles but I personally prefer the thinner and softer ramen noodles.

The chicken ramen is a must-try for those who want a solid chicken broth ramen, however take note that it contains truffle which might not be for everyone. The black garlic ramen has a generous amount of char siu and they definitely don't skimp on the garlic, making the broth very flavourful. You might need to bring some mints to clear the garlic smell after XD. Overall solid bowl of ramen, will visit this shop if I'm in the area.

This small cafe located away from bus stops and between MRT stations houses good square donuts and sandwiches which makes a good brunch spot. Do come early if you'd like to eat in as the cafe has a very limited seating area.

What to go for would be their donuts, they are fluffy on the inside and have a good variety of flavours. I particularly love their popular burnt butter honey glaze donut and the pistachio raspberry donuts as I have a sweet tooth. I would skip the fairy dust donut unless you like pork floss a lot.

I tried three sandwiches which are their monthly special and recommended and they do not fail to deliver. The pork belly from the Hanoi Crisp-Mas and pork collar from the Mojo Cerdo was so tender and savoury which is a good meal after eating the donut. The Magic Mushroom vegan sandwich was a pleasant surprise as the mushroom provided a nice umami taste to a healthier option. Overall would come again if I'm in the area!

This restaurant has earned back-to-back 5 years of Michellin Bib Gourmand and is constantly crowded with people, best to come with a reservation before hand. I chose less spicy for the food as I was afraid of the spice but the spice level was catered to foreign visitors as well so I recommend Singaporeans to pick the normal or higher spice level.

My personal favourite is their pad thai with grilled chicken. The portion is decent and the grilled chicken is very tender and flavourful, I think this is a safe option to pick. The Isaan grilled pork is slightly on the tougher side which is my favourite and the exterior is perfectly grilled. It comes with a tangy chilli dipping sauce which is complements the meat to make it less jelak.

Another fail safe option is the basil stir fry minced pork which is decent and the basil made the meat more aromatic. You may also opt for the their signature purple rice which is sticky glutinous rice cooked with berries. It is nothing too special apart from being more fragrant.

This michellin bib pernakan thai restaurant serves vegetarian dishes that gets people doubting themselves at first bite. Althought it can be quite expensive, the quality can be vouched for and I personally like the sweet and sour delights which has the similar texture to pork and the sauce perfectly disguises the vegetarian dish. My gripe with the penang rendang is that the flavour could be stronger and the spice wasn't apparent enough.

The cripsy golden oats tofu was heavily buried with the fried oats, nicely fried but which there were more tofu. Do get their signaure olive rice as it was very fragrant and portion is decent for sharing.

Would recommend this place to visit with your vegetarian friends but the steep price point might be something to consider.

This small Japanese izakaya is known to be crowded during dinner time, and walk-in is almost impossible (reservation is almost a must). They are known for their tsukemen but also serve a wide variety of Japanese food such as tonkotsu ramen, rice meals, and side dishes. NOTE: You are required to purchase at least 1 drink/pax during dinner, and their prices are expensive.

Their tsukemen dipping sauce is incredibly savoury and umami. I strongly recommend dipping the noodles and breaking them up in the sauce to ensure they are nicely coated. The char siew, on the other hand, is not anything special, which the slices could be more fatty as it was a little tough. The tonkotsu broth was quite standard, not anything outstanding.

I ordered the chicken nanban and ebi shinjou toast as sides. The chicken nanban is a good side to pair with alcohol and the chicken is still moist on the inside. The ebi shinjou toast is a fried toast with mini shrimp balls/cubes inside and is paired with sweet thai sauce. It's my first time having such a dish, and the sweet and savoury pairing was an interesting experience.

Overall, this place definitely provides quality meals but at a higher price point, which may not be affordable.

Yat Ka Yan (Cantonese for ไธ€ๅฎถไบบ) boasts snaking queue on the 2nd floor of fortune center and is well known for their large variety of Chinese desserts, both hot and cold, as well as snacks. Don't be turned off by their queue as it moves fast and turnover rate is high. Do order first before taking a seat as the staff will assign it to you.

The cendol has a generous amount of gula melaka and is insanely sweet. My personal favourite is the fresh mango sago which is on the pricier end but is my go-to dessert to combat SG's heat. The mix of ice cream, mango slice and ice is sinful and my guilty pleasure. If you want a less sweet option, the chrysanthemum jelly osmanthus still provides that cold relief and has a nice tea flavour to it. Overall, this is my go-to dessert shop, due to its large variety and quality, after enjoying a meal in fortune centre.

This peranakan cafe is highly raved as it has amazing food as well as nyonya traditional costume for you to try on and take pictures with when you are dining there. The whole meal there was incredibly sinful but worth the visit from time to time. Highly recommend the dry laksa as it was one of the best I have tried as the laksa paste is not too dry and provides a nice coat around the noodles. The megakabo pork belly was incredibly tender and fatty (melt in your mouth) and has a sweet and tangy flavour which is interesting. The chicken rendang wasn't as mind blowing but I couldn't stop mixing the rendang curry with the blue pea rice and eating them together. The chicken was very tender and cooked well. Overall, I would make a special trip to this place and recommend this to my foreign friends to try. Please do make a reservation before coming or risk have to stand in a queue.

Initially the store was Fat Cat Ice cream but now rebranded to Fatto Catto. Specialised in serving ceremonial grade matcha that is sourced from Japan and China. I tried their signature Maneki-Neko and the matcha is bitter and incredibly smooth. Once mixed together with the milk, it has a nice balance between the bitter notes and the sweetness of the milk. Honestly, I am not experienced enough to tell you the finer nodes of matcha.

The waffle on the other hand is so perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The outer layer is slightly burnt which gives a hint of bitterness but the drizzle of maple syrup masks the flavour. Very underrated for waffles from cafe to hit this level of perfection.

I have tried the watermelon and yuzu sorbet flavours which are very refreshing and good to combat the hot SG weather. Overall, definitely do come check this place out for a drink and snacks along with all the cafes around the area.

Typical cafe in JB. I would recommend yogurt chicken leg and chicken quesadilla. The chicken leg is nicely grilled and tender on the inside. The salad was a nice touch (some may find it unnecessary) and the mashed potatoes was very smooth! Chicken quesadilla was savoury and is a good portion. Very similar to that of Founder's Cafe.

The commune signature baked eggs was not anything special and the cream cheese that came with the bagel was not enough. Drinks are alright, nothing special.

If you go during dinner time, you will bound to see a long queue for this dessert place. Four Beans specialise in selling bean curd related desserts and the flavours are on point. They have a wide variety of options but my personal recommendations are the Black Sesame Shaved Ice and Signature Soy Bean Curd.

The black sesame has a strong nutty flavour but not bitter. It is very smooth but do note that it will melt very fast under JB's heat. All of the taro are chewy and QQ. The bean curd generally give a smooth texture but are not too sweet hence they give a side of brown sugar in case you want to sweeten the bean curd.

Overall, a good place to go for dessert if you are in the area and no queue but not a place I would specially make a trip to.

If you are near the area, you may consider dropping by Inside Scoop for some sinful ice-cream with affordable prices.

Among the wide variety of flavours, I strongly recommend the matcha flavour which has a nice balance between sweetness and bitterness. The cookies and cream is a safe flavour that cant go wrong. I wouldn't recommend the pistachio kunafa chocolate flavour ice-cream as it wasn't very strong and to my liking. All in all, it's a place for affordable dessert (compared to sg) if you are eating dinner in the area and if 4 beans is crowded ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ“ Tiong Bahru (82 Tiong Poh Rd)
๐Ÿ’ฐ Expected damage $18 - 25

Japan famous Sakanoue cafe has opened a permanent outlet at Drips Bakery Cafe in Tiong Bahru. They sell 6 different flavours of kakigori (Japanese ice kacang) and are all huge in portion (2 people's worth of dessert), hence the expensive price tag. The ice is shaved to the extent that melts in the mouth and gives it a soft texture. Every scoop of ice gives you a consistent milk flavour. Each kakigori is topped with espuma camembert, which is a wipped camembert cheese that is very fluffy and light. Sometimes, I wish the flavours were a bit stronger but is a case of personal preference.

Among the flavours, I've chosen the classic strawberry. Despite the plain look of the kakigori, there are strawberry fillings in the middle to ensure you don't feel jelak/bored from the taste. Overall, it is a nice sweet dessert, but there are a bit more savoury options such as "Blazing Fire Cheese" and the "Pistachio Chocolate" looks decadent. Will definitely come here again to try the other flavours. Overall, it's a good place to eat if you are in the area but it's not very exceptional that you should make a special visit there.
