We're honored to welcome Professor Jenchieh Hung to the Winners’ Night of the 2026 Asia Architecture Design Awards, taking place on 26 June 2026 at Dragon Pearl Cave, Vietnam.

As an International Jury Member and Board of Advisors member, Professor Hung has played an important role in the awards program, contributing his expertise to the evaluation of outstanding projects across architecture, interior design, hospitality, and related creative disciplines.

Widely recognized as an architect, educator, and principal architect of Jenchieh Hung + Kulthida Songkittipakdee / HAS design and research, Professor Hung's work has received international acclaim and has been featured in leading architectural publications worldwide. His practice continues to explore the intersection of architecture, culture, urbanism, and social impact, contributing valuable perspectives to contemporary design discourse across Asia and beyond.

We are proud to announce Courtyard by Marriott Kuala Lumpur City Centre as an official nominee for the 2026 Asia Architecture Design Awards in the category of Asia’s Best Hospitality Architecture Design.

Set within the vibrant core of Kuala Lumpur, this project reimagines the former Pacific Regency Hotel as a contemporary hospitality destination that balances global brand standards with a strong sense of place. Positioned near the iconic KL Tower, the design embraces the city’s dynamic skyline while offering a calm, refined retreat for both business and leisure travellers.

Anchored in the concept of an “urban sanctuary”, the architecture introduces a layered arrival journey - from the bustling street level to an elevated sky lobby on Level 15, where panoramic views and natural light define a welcoming social heart. Clean geometries, warm material palettes, and subtle references to local heritage shape a timeless yet distinctly Malaysian identity.

Guestrooms are conceived as restful enclaves, prioritizing comfort, functionality, and curated city views, while open, fluid public spaces encourage interaction and flexibility. Through adaptive reuse and thoughtful planning, the project transforms an existing structure into a forward-looking hospitality model.

By nominating this project, we celebrate CTA Architects’ ability to revitalize urban fabric, creating a hotel experience that is efficient, contextually responsive, and quietly sophisticated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

We are proud to announce The Kross as an official nominee for the 2026 Asia Architecture Design Awards in the category of Asia’s Best Commercial Building Interior Design.

Rising in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, The Kross reimagines the mixed-use tower as a “crosspoint” - a dynamic intersection where working, living, and social experiences seamlessly connect. Designed across a 37-storey development, the project brings together offices and serviced apartments within a cohesive interior language that balances global design sensibilities with local cultural depth.

At the core of the concept is the reinterpretation of the “lotus vein” - a symbol of growth and resilience in Vietnamese culture - translated into spatial rhythm rather than ornament. Linear forms, vertical articulation, and gentle curves guide movement and perception, while natural materials such as stone and wood add tactile richness. Office spaces embrace a refined minimalism, while residential areas introduce warmth through a hospitality-inspired atmosphere.

More than a functional environment, The Kross proposes a forward-looking model for urban living that integrates flexibility, sustainability, and cultural identity into a unified interior framework. It stands as a new symbol of contemporary Vietnam, where tradition evolves and modern life finds its balance.

Set against a backdrop of mountains and lush greenery, The Inner Shine redefines contemporary living through a quiet, nature-led design philosophy. Conceived as a “frame for nature,” the home opens seamlessly to its surroundings, where every space is shaped by light, landscape, and emotion. Clean architectural lines and a restrained palette of warm wood, matte stone, and soft textiles create an atmosphere of calm, allowing nature to take center stage.

At the heart of the design is natural lightcarefully orchestrated to move through the home, shifting from gentle morning brightness to warm afternoon glow and tranquil evening tones. Open, fluid living spaces foster a continuous dialogue between interior and exterior, while more private areas offer intimacy and retreat.

We are thrilled to spotlight The Wood Cabin by S.O.S Architects as an official nominee for the 2026 Asia Architecture Design Awards. Located in the serene highlands of Chiang Rai, this restorative retreat was born from a singular, powerful proposition: that architecture should not merely sit upon the landscape, but emerge directly from it. By abstracting the layering of distant ridgelines into articulated volumes, the design echoes the natural contours of the terrain, allowing the cabin to visually recede into its forest context and function as a seamless continuation of the topography.

The soul of The Wood Cabin lies in its innovative "Material Intelligence." Rather than relying on technological add-ons, the project achieves sustainability through a dialogue with reclaimed resources. In collaboration with Champaca Wood, S.O.S Architects utilized reclaimed teak shingles, sapwood offcuts, and end-grain remnants—materials often discarded or overlooked—to define the interior’s texture and depth. These elements are intentionally exposed, allowing natural grain patterns and imperfections to create a tactile, grounded atmosphere that bridges past craftsmanship with contemporary design. Every window is a carefully framed opening that captures specific mountain views, while skylights introduce controlled daylight that shifts throughout the day, enhancing the guest's temporal awareness.

What distinguishes The Wood Cabin within the eco-retreat category is the absolute coherence between its form, section, and material logic. The interior ceiling lines follow the external sloped roof planes, creating dynamic volumes that foster mental restoration and stillness without increasing the building's physical footprint. By reintegrating wood-processing waste into a sophisticated architectural language, S.O.S Architects has created a spatial experience centered on authenticity and light, proving that small-scale hospitality can meaningfully engage ecological responsibility while delivering profound formal clarity.

We are honored to spotlight Omah Pantai by Upper Room Collaborative Studio as an official nominee for the 2026 Asia Architecture Design Awards. Located on a pristine plot in Jayapura Bay, "Omah Pantai"—which literally translates to "Beachside House"—is a 350-square-meter private villa that harmonizes the rugged beauty of the Indonesian coastline with sophisticated, climate-responsive engineering. The architectural concept is inspired by its parallel relationship to the sea, featuring two intersecting rectangular sections that cleverly divide the home into vibrant communal spaces and serene personal retreats, all of which enjoy direct, intimate access to integrated water features.

Drawing deep inspiration from traditional vernacular Indonesian houses, Omah Pantai features a steeply pitched roof with low, flared overhangs designed to deflect strong ocean winds and mitigate salt exposure. This high, open-roof design facilitates natural passive cooling, allowing cool sea breezes to circulate freely through the interior. To ensure absolute tranquility, the studio employed a "dual-facing" strategy: solid, stony walls clad in natural stone face the busy main street to buffer noise, while the sea-facing facade is composed of expansive, folding floor-to-ceiling glass doors that blur the boundary between the interior sanctuary and the boundless Indian Ocean.

The project stands as a benchmark for sustainability and disaster resilience in coastal architecture. Upper Room Collaborative Studio prioritized local craftsmanship and materials, utilizing durable teak and ironwood alongside reclaimed rafters and a striking mosaic wall crafted from leftover andesite stone fragments. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Omah Pantai is engineered for longevity; the structure is elevated five meters above sea level on a concrete pile foundation anchored into the bedrock, featuring a unique inverted-roof retaining wall designed to redirect storm surges. By blending biophilic beauty with rigorous technical innovation, Omah Pantai offers a timeless retreat that resonates with the rhythmic pulse of the Jayapura shoreline.

We are thrilled to spotlight New Japan Umeda by HiGe creative partner as an official nominee for the 2026 Asia Architecture Design Awards. This ambitious renovation breathes new life into a legendary 1970s institution in Osaka’s vibrant Umeda district—a pioneer that famously housed the world’s first capsule hotel, originally designed by the renowned architect Kisho Kurokawa.

The design team was tasked with a dual challenge: signaling the facility’s identity as a premier sauna destination to international travelers while honoring the historical capsules on the upper floors. At the street level, a massive noren curtain and a facade built entirely around the "sauna" concept create a striking, nomadic atmosphere amidst the urban shopping district. The reception area functions as a visual extension of the sauna itself, utilizing natural-colored wood and curated displays of sauna stones, ladles, and firewood to immerse guests in a warm, traditional Japanese aesthetic from the moment they arrive.

The true innovation lies in the upper-floor capsule hotel, where HiGe creative partner achieved a maximum psychological effect with minimal physical intervention. By installing flat mirrors on the ceiling and cleaning the original capsules without altering their arrangement, the team created a "four-dimensional" experience. The two-tiered units reflect into a perceived four-tiered labyrinth, adding a time axis to the senses and transforming old historical objects into a fresh, extraordinary maze. This blend of "Visualized Service" at the entrance and "Expanded Reality" in the sleeping quarters offers a journey into the heart of Japanese hospitality that simply cannot be found anywhere else.
