Quit my 9-5 to build mine with zero employees

I found out last week that the job I have been doing for a year has a name. Forward deployed engineer. OpenAI and Anthropic are hiring teams of them.

The work is walking into somebody else's business and making AI actually run on their data and their mess. Not demoing it. The write-ups call it half consultant, half builder. The building is the hirable half. The other half is the one nobody wants.

Some of the best performing ads I have seen this year were made by people who cannot run ads. Their agents write them, launch them, and cut the losers overnight.

A corporate video here still runs a thousand dollars into five figures, and that price is honest. What took a crew a month now takes an agent a morning.

Everything I automated was production. Nothing I automated told me what was worth producing.

Comment AUTOMATE and I'll send you the breakdown.

Singapore is early at the state level and late at the shop floor.

Our state funds sit inside the AI that Singaporeans use more per head than almost anyone on earth. Meanwhile most of the local businesses I talk to are still on a free tier, using it like a smarter search bar. The bet is already placed. Whether it pays gets decided by the people who never read the headlines.

Someone in my comments told me to just uninstall Claude, after 2,000 hours in it.

Fair enough, and he is right about most people. The video is what those hours actually built, including the parts that broke.

Follow along if you want the version with the failures included.

Singapore held the world's #1 spot for AI use per person, and Australia just took it off us.

Anthropic's own numbers: 6.40 vs 5.81, with the US all the way down at 12th of 121 countries. We didn't slow down either, we actually grew. So the ranking isn't the real story. What we build with all that usage is.

The AI film Singapore was roasting last week premiered nine days after this model launched. Whatever you laughed at was already a generation behind.

Seedance 2.5 is rolling out inside ByteDance's own apps, and the reference limit is actually 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio files in one input. The gap between laughable and hard-to-tell is closing in months, not years.

So how long before you can't tell at all?

An AI film premiered in a Singapore cinema on National Day, and people actually paid S$21.50 to watch it.

The reviews torched it and honestly some of them are fair. But the human characters are what give it away, because the non-human scenes are getting genuinely hard to tell apart from real CGI, and that's the part I can't stop thinking about.

So tell me honestly, would you pay to watch a fully AI-generated film?

My AI remembers my business better than I do.

Not because it is smarter. Because it never gets tired, never half listens, and never loses the thread three months later. I fed it for months before it was worth anything, and that is the part people skip. A brain doesn't populate itself. What you get back is only ever as good as what you put in.

Follow along if you want to see what I build with it next.

I don't pick what to automate by ROI. I pick it by grudge.

My list is every task from an old job that I resented doing. Editing was first, because it used to eat hours of every single day. Email was second. It isn't glamorous and nobody posts about it, but it quietly gives back hours a month. The test I use is simple: if an SOP exists for it, it can probably be automated, and you never have to think about it again.

More of what I've automated is on my page.

An AI chatbot waits for you. An AI agent doesn't.

I was in Malaysia for the weekend with no laptop, just a phone that kept buzzing. Every buzz was my agent back in Singapore telling me what it had already finished. Videos uploaded, comments answered, DMs replied to. The part nobody tells you is that the work still needs a QC pass, and that pass takes minutes instead of a day.

If you want the guide, comment AUTOMATE and I'll send it to you.
