NDP stories don't come better than this personal one. Ten years ago, my son Kai Minejima-Lee rode a unicorn above the National Stadium in NDP51. Yesterday, he led the flag relay into the same venue at NDP61 as a Team Singapore athlete, Sports Boy of the Year, and a world champion indoor skydiver.

Now, the colleagues I've worked with over the past decade never set out to become government policy comms specialists - it just so happened we had great clients in the public sector that understood the value of owning and telling stories that resonated with their audiences.

The panel preceding our geopolitics one spoke about comms in a post-truth world. Facts don't buy you trust. My clients in the public sector understand this, and that's where we've been able to build great policy comms campaigns.

On my panel we discussed how policy shifts would affect how we communicate, and the one thing that was common in our comments was how our consistency is always built on the values we stand for.

Great fun. Not least because I got to retell the apocryphal story about LKY telling Rajaratnam when the latter was at a loss as regards what to say about Singapore's brand new foreign policy stance on 10 August 1965 -- "just put on a tie, Raja, you'll figure it out".

Eyebags FM 89.3. I have a lot of respect for professional radio hosts, especially the talkback radio variety. I find it incredibly hard to hold conversations over an hour. I'm wiped out after just one morning's worth of co-hosting - but Neil Humphreys and the like manage to do this for three hours every weekday on MONEY FM 89.3. I keep saying this - Singapore is ready for this talkback format, and the number of messages and voicemail sent to the number attests to that. It seems we have a lot to say.

I've told this story to a few people: when I was in school, my parents were of the opinion that all I did was "muck about" doing everything else but be studious in actual schoolwork. It showed in the terrible marks I got in every exam from the time I hit puberty.
