Earlier this week, in conjunction with the launch of Council’s Design 2035 Masterplan, we had the honour of being invited to share about REINVENTION, our festival and district activation with .

It was humbling and honestly quite heartening to see how the spirit of REINVENTION sits alongside the larger ambitions of the masterplan - for example to strengthen design not only as an industry, but as a way to connect communities, shape culture, deepen national identity, and bring creativity, science, technology and innovation closer to the public.

We shared how REINVENTION was more than an event, but a platform for world-building, placemaking and meaningful encounters, where communities could gather, participate, uncover and experience design on their own terms.

We are especially delighted that many of the designed experiences continue to resonate long after the lights went down.

As we toured DesignSingapore’s beautifully designed, carefully considered and meticulously created new office environment with .sg and the DSG team, it was also a lovely moment to reflect on the future of design in Singapore, and how design can care for, impact, shape and amplify not only industries, but also communities, culture and everyday life.

Grateful to DesignSingapore Council for the invitation, and to Singapore Science Park for continuing to believe in what the local design sector and community can grow into.

All too often at OE, we talk about what it takes to Make Meaningful Matter. Moments like this continue to be a reminder that design is often equally about the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ - how thoughtful and well-crafted.. as well as how people-centred, community-minded and anchored in a wider sense of care and responsibility.

At , paper is the building block of Pimm’s creative universe. 📃🧩We were really excited to meet her in person at her studio, where she shared with us the endless possibilities her practice encompasses.

Having started as a graphic designer like most of us, Pimm expressed that she only felt growth and progress after starting her studio and letting her experimental nature guide her. “I like to create things that you have to look at again.” This line has stuck with us since.

While all eyes are on the screens, Pimm tries to think beyond just that. She weaves paper and plays with other materials as part of her installations for brands, and translates that into merchandising, sculpture, and other forms. 🐟

Thank you for having us for an inspirational afternoon!

Big ideas. Real conversations. Fearless ex*****on.

At OuterEdit, we’ve always believed in supporting the next generation of creatives by giving young talents a platform to be seen, heard and celebrated. Every year, it’s inspiring to witness emerging designers pushing beyond aesthetics to create projects that challenge perspectives and spark meaningful reflection.

🏆This year, we are especially proud to recognise not one, but two standout projects by Angeline and Aidan and present our OuterEdit Special Industry Prize in recognition of their exceptional work.

“Your Shelf Life” by reframes death as a catalyst for clarity through the familiar structure of a grocery store. The project creates space for awareness, allowing visitors to leave with clarity about how death can shape how they choose to spend their time.

“Not As Nature Intended” by is a speculative exhibition that exposes the gap between what animal testing laws promise and how they are actually enforced within laboratories. The project aims to make this gap visible by illustrating what these animals would need to become to endure the “minimal” suffering permitted when laws and regulations meant to protect them are neglected.

These projects are a reminder that the future of creativity is in incredibly thoughtful hands and we are excited to continue supporting the next generation as they shape conversations that truly matter. 🌱

Congrats to all graduates! 🎉 We can’t wait to see what’s next 👏😉

It’s out.

A collection of 252 realities, stories, insights and perspectives from across the local VisComm landscape, brought into one place.

Shaped through conversations, observations, lived experiences and honest reflections from within the community. Carefully considered and pieced together with heart, care and intention for the wider VisComm ecosystem.

It has taken time. And it needed to.

Within it, we explore what it takes to sustain a career in VisComm, what fulfillment looks and feels like, the structural realities we navigate, and the support, encouragement and advice we offer one another along the way.

Take what you need from it. Sit with it, question it, share it. We hope it offers clarity, perspective, and a quiet reminder that none of us are navigating this alone.

A Sunday filled with creativity and conversations – we couldn’t have it any other way! 🤩

Earlier in March, we threw a (long-overdue) party to celebrate our publication, The Pocket-Sized Design Festival. It felt like just yesterday that it went into the world, but you, the lovely audience that came through, made it all possible.

Some of you gathered round the long table to make your own clocks with offcuts from , some of you took home some of our wares and gave them a new home, and the rest of you flipped through PSDF and learnt a little nugget or two about our creative scene in Singapore! Huge thanks to .pals too who kept the afternoon going with their tunes 🎶🕺

Lastly, massive love to for sharing the space we needed to let ideas bloom and take form. It is never easy to run an independent event or project here, but we’re grateful for the support when we needed it most.

We hope everyone had tons of fun! Soon enough, we’ll have another one of these ~

This past Monday evening stayed with us more deeply than we expected.

What was meant to be a casual soft launch for the industry report unfolded as an open, generous space where people showed up as they were: honest, vulnerable, and willing to share. 🤝💬 What stood out to us was the diversity in the room, across and beyond VisComm, with different voices coming together with a shared intent to engage and contribute.

The conversations carried real weight - from the sharing of the report insights through to the panel, and late into the Q&As. It was one thing for a room to be filled and another entirely for people to stay, to listen, and to keep the dialogue going. That meant a lot to us.

We know a little bit about what it feels like to not quite belong so being able to help create a space like this feels deeply timely and meaningful. It is part of our commitment to show up for the next generation, to build platforms that uplift and shape more thoughtful conversations, and in time, real change. 🚀

💙💚 Our heartfelt thanks to , .ntuc and for your trust and partnership, to every contributor, everyone who joined us, and the 252 of you who took part in the survey.

Initiatives like these are not new but this one feels different. Like something being rekindled; a small but important step forward.

More to come! The Making VisComm Matter industry report will be shared very soon :)

Earlier this year, during Bangkok Design Week, we planned a series of creative meet-ups alongside our itinerary. Straight from our flight, and dizzy from the adrenaline, we headed to our first visit!

Good taste, bad taste, or good bad taste? Saran Yen Panya () embodies it all. Beneath the loud, quirky visuals that give Saran Yen’s work its unique flavour, the man’s creative vision for his studio and personal work has definitely echoed with ours.

One thing he said that stuck with the team was, “Creativity is like fermentation.” 🧀🍷It was a metaphor that described how creativity develops over time, with patience and experience; just like cheese, wine, and other foods that grow in deliciousness with age.

We were grateful to be among the first bunch to take a tour through his shop, followed by a tour of the Song Wat neighbourhood. 🚶Walking through narrow lanes filled with both traditional and new shops, we realised that his work parallels this spirit, striking a delicate balance between heritage and modernity.

Here’s us piecing together some of the best bits of our visit!

🌐💙 Centred on people, shaped by stories, driven by community and purpose. We’re proud to be part of the B Corp community this .

This one’s close to heart. Thoughtfully put together, more podcast than post. A voice-led reflection shaped by our journey over the past 15 years.

From being told we were too early, too idealistic;
Through setbacks, hard lessons, and small wins;
To finding our voice, our footing, and our people.

Now, three months on from being conferred Singapore’s 62nd Certified B Corporation, we’ve been taking stock of what this really means. Beyond a mere recognition, a responsibility and a sharpening of purpose, mission, experience, capability and intent.

At our core, and since our humble beginnings, OE has always been about people - and about doing something different, differently, because you cannot automate community, and you can never expect different results from adopting the same solutions.

Audio notes from our founder (), shared from the heart.

This March, we’re finally coming out of our desks to say hello! 👋🏼

In spirit of our Pocket-Sized Design Festival publication, we are hosting a community event for friends and friends of friends to come together for the year. 🕺The book has always been about celebrating the ground-up spirit – the courage to start where you are and make things happen. This gathering is simply an extension of that: a chance to hang out, swap ideas, and chat about creativity.

If you’re curious about what to expect, we have a fun schedule lined up for the day!! Joining us are friends from who will be showcasing some lovely OFFCUT merch and paper goods! And .pals who will be soundtracking the afternoon while you browse along a lovely corner of new + pre-loved items curated by the team! 🎶💝

We’ll also be throwing a special DIY activity in the mix! In our MAKE A CLOCK, CREATIVITY UNLOCK! workshop, we will transform paper offcuts (big thank you to Allegro for contributing them!) and scrap materials into a unique, functional paper clock for your living/working space 🕰

Free entry for all, but signups are required for the workshop! Sign up for the workshop via the link in our bio – slots are split into the following times:
2:30-3:30PM
3:30-4:30PM
4:30-5:30PM

Last but not the least, a big thank you to for opening their beautiful space to us. Come thru, bring some friends and spend the Sunday afternoon with us. 🌞

We hope to see you there!!

We started our year with a BANG, at !

With a map and coffee in hand, we were ready to scour the streets for exhibitions. Bangkok, a city bustling not only with vibrancy but with so much creativity, we’re glad to be back once again. Here are our Outertakes on some of our favourites:

💡Telling the weaved stories of neighbourhoods surrounding the now-defunct New World Mall, we headed to the once bustling spot for ‘8+1 Circuit of Stories’. We loved how an abandoned mall is now utilised as an exhibition space that brings neighbourhood memories and everyday stories back to life.

🌺While exploring Pak Khlong Talat and the Memorial Bridge Waterfront area, we were in awe of how artists reinterpreted the daily scenes of the flower market into artworks under bridges and in open spaces – simple, unassuming spaces that locals would not have noticed during their commute.

🌬We’ve always resonated with how designers express their sentiments on everyday design. ‘Love is in the Air’ by .official x captured the dual meaning of the word ‘fan’ as a cooling device and as a loved one (in Thai) through their thoughtful exhibition.

🎪Bangkok Trademark Fair () was a feast for the senses! Held in front of the Grand Postal Building, the fair brought together so many exciting brands and activities. We had a blast exploring all the different stores and yes, we definitely did a fair bit of shopping here too 🤭

📂Lastly, we could not forget “OUTTAKES” (.design) – a cross-cultural exhibition highlighting unselected design concepts. We were pleasantly surprised to be let into the world of unpublished drafts by the studios through an interactive experience. Revision after revision, do we really get to take stock of how we’ve progressed? This project was a reminder for us to start doing so.
