THE REINVENTION ALLPLAY - PLAYCOURT is OPEN! 🏓

Over the past two weekends, we brought the space to life with a free-to-play pickleball court, sponsored by The Ark, and a community mural by Play! and Gush, a starting point for what’s to come.

From 5 September, new designs and spatial interventions will begin reshaping the court, inviting you to rethink what a court can be and how we play.

We are excited to welcome you back to experience and experiment with the REINVENTED PlayCourt. 🎉

Abbbssoolueeellyyy surreal to see REINVENTION: ALLPLAY on the cover of The Straits Times LIFE today. 🥹❤️

What started with a simple question about why we seem to make less and less room for play as we grow older became something much bigger than we imagined.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve watched kids, parents, grandparents, designers, makers, technologists and complete strangers make things, move things, break things, figure things out, laugh together and simply… play!

And perhaps that’s the point.

Play gives us permission to be curious. To try without knowing where something will lead. To meet people we might not otherwise meet. To see familiar things differently. And sometimes, to stumble into an idea we never knew we were looking for.

Seeing ALLPLAY come alive has reminded us that creating something like this really does take a playground full of people.

So thank you to Singapore Science Park and CapitaLand Development for continuing to trust us to dream a little differently about what an innovation district can be, and to DesignSingapore Council for supporting the journey.

And a huge thank you to every designer, artist, maker, facilitator, producer, partner and friend who came out to play with us:

Two weekends well played ❤️

Over the past two weeks at REINVENTION: ALLPLAY, it was incredible to see people of all ages come together simply to play.

Across large-scale playscapes 🛝, exhibitions, hands-on workshops, a community mural 🎨, a design market, reimagined spaces for casual sport and countless spontaneous moments, there was no need to win, score points or even know the rules. 🙌🏻💯

Just an invitation to play. And, importantly, to play together!

Play is so much more than games, sport or recreation. It sparks creativity and innovation. It builds curiosity, cognitive flexibility and divergent thinking. It teaches us to experiment, improvise, collaborate, solve problems and imagine what might be possible.

These are skills we nurture instinctively in children, yet so often forget to value as we grow older. 🌱

Play is a life skill. A social skill. And increasingly, a professional skill. It builds the curiosity, adaptability and creative confidence we need to navigate our workplaces, our economy, and the ambiguity and uncertainty of the world ahead.

That is what REINVENTION: ALLPLAY set out to explore: what happens when we give ourselves permission to play again, regardless of age, ability or experience.

Thank you to everyone who came down, joined in and reminded us how seriously we should take play.

When the Never Too Small team invited us to put together a pull out city guide for their Singapore Edition (Issue 8), we never gave it a second thought! 

“Your Tiny Yummy Spicy Saucy Insider Guide to Singapore” 🌶️ is our collective take on experiencing the city like a local. We spent time researching, debating our favourite spots and uncovering the off-the-beaten-track places, neighbourhood gems and delicious finds that make our little red dot feel uniquely ours and never too small.

Here’s a glimpse behind the scenes to celebrate the mess behind the process: from shaping the visual direction and refining the artwork to testing mock-ups and bringing the guide to life 🌀

We’ll be sharing more soon, but for now, we can’t wait for you to explore 🇸🇬 through the NTS Singapore Edition magazine and the guide.

We’re incredibly excited to finally share our work on the key visual for this year’s i Light Singapore 🌇

Organised by Urban Redevelopment Authority , presented by UOB , and brought to life by the incredible team at Pico Singapore , it was an absolute honour and privilege for OuterEdit to be entrusted with refreshing the visual identity for this year’s festival.

Building on the visual language we established in 2025, this year’s key visual evolves the identity while retaining its distinctive top-down perspective of Marina Bay, welcoming new landmarks into the composition and celebrating one of Singapore’s most recognisable skylines.

Our starting point was golden hour. Neither day nor night, that beautiful in-between moment where the city quietly changes hands. A prelude to the glowing installations that follow. A gateway to evenings spent wandering together. A platform for conversations, discoveries and shared moments as families, friends and communities gather across the bay.

A little sneaky behind-the-scenes secret 😆 With a bit of help from a sneaky tool named Google Earth, our team meticulously and lovingly studied, traced and redrew each architectural landmark to recreate a skyline visual that felt familiar, playful and unmistakably Singapore.

Designing for a national festival seen by hundreds of thousands of people is both exhilarating and humbling. We’d like to extent a huge thank you to our incredible team who poured so much care into every detail, and to Pico Singapore for the continued trust, partnership and opportunity to collaborate for a second consecutive year.

What does it really mean to lead in the design industry today?

Not just creatively, commercially or strategically, but also humanly. To create meaningful work, sustainable businesses, healthy cultures, and genuine relationships all at once.

Friday evening’s conversations hosted by DBCS with the support of DesignSingapore Council were a thoughtful reminder that there are no perfect formulas for this. Just many people trying their best to navigate the tensions between creativity, business, technology, ambition, care, and sustainability.

Some of the questions that came up:
• In an AI age, should creatives become specialists or generalists?
• How do we pursue meaningful creative quality while building commercially sustainable businesses?
• How do we continue attracting, nurturing, and retaining good people in the creative industries?

No easy answers, but tonnes of honest and generous sharings.

One thing I reflected on during the session was that leadership in design is ultimately about people. Over the years at OuterEdit, we’ve learnt that culture is never something you simply build once and leave alone. It needs to be continuously nurtured, protected, repaired, and cared for. Some of our most meaningful work has also come from listening deeply to people and communities, and creating spaces where stories, identities, and relationships can come alive in fresh, relevant and unexpected ways.

We’ve definitely had moments where we pushed too hard creatively and learned difficult lessons about burnout, sustainability, boundaries, and balance. But over time, we’ve also learnt that meaningful work becomes much more possible when you find collaborators, clients, and teammates who genuinely believe in the same spirit and values together.

Huge thank you once again to DBCS, DSG, all the esteemed speakers Simon Ong Kingsmen - The Experience Company Adhiraj Mahajan PRISM+ Stacy Yellow Octopus and guests for such an open and energising evening of conversation. And congratulations once again to the inaugural graduating class of the Future Leaders Fellowship. It was genuinely heartening to see a new generation of thoughtful and empathetic design-led leaders stepping forward ✨

Earlier this week, in conjunction with the launch of Council’s Design 2035 Masterplan, we had the honour of being invited to share about REINVENTION, our festival and district activation with .

It was humbling and honestly quite heartening to see how the spirit of REINVENTION sits alongside the larger ambitions of the masterplan - for example to strengthen design not only as an industry, but as a way to connect communities, shape culture, deepen national identity, and bring creativity, science, technology and innovation closer to the public.

We shared how REINVENTION was more than an event, but a platform for world-building, placemaking and meaningful encounters, where communities could gather, participate, uncover and experience design on their own terms.

We are especially delighted that many of the designed experiences continue to resonate long after the lights went down.

As we toured DesignSingapore’s beautifully designed, carefully considered and meticulously created new office environment with .sg and the DSG team, it was also a lovely moment to reflect on the future of design in Singapore, and how design can care for, impact, shape and amplify not only industries, but also communities, culture and everyday life.

Grateful to DesignSingapore Council for the invitation, and to Singapore Science Park for continuing to believe in what the local design sector and community can grow into.

All too often at OE, we talk about what it takes to Make Meaningful Matter. Moments like this continue to be a reminder that design is often equally about the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ - how thoughtful and well-crafted.. as well as how people-centred, community-minded and anchored in a wider sense of care and responsibility.
